Advice...save for 240sx or keep the ls and put more money into it?
Ok i drive a 2006 ls coupe. bout 58k on her right now. I'm a college student and all i keep hearing about the L61 is how much money people put into it, and get very little result. I got the car for my birthday and it is my first car. The question is should i keep modding it or just stop and leave the car alone and save up for an import that when i put money into it will give me the results i am looking for?
side note: have had the car for almost 3 years now and have yet to touch the engine. Done audio work, suspension, and exterior work.

i just put 240 i dont necessarily mean a 240 should't have put that. but yea thats what i was thinking. it just doesnt seem worth the money on the 2.2
alot of people with the l61 dont want to take the time to do it right. it is what it is and it has limitations but anything is possible with enough money and effort. Some people have done great things with the l61 though...

yea im just not as interested as i used to be about trying to get power out of the ls. i know it can be done but it just doesnt seem worth it. plus the aftermarket on imports is just so much better and cheaper
Most 240sx have already been used and abused by now. I would just save up and get an s2k if you want a rwd import. Either that or a miata would be a good start. With the money you would spend on those though you could get well over 250-300hp on your l61 which would probably beat them both.

yea i want something that is quick and can be modded easily but i still need some space in it to haul things to and from school so idk. it wont be a while till i get a new car
Honestly its not worth trying to make the 240 or the cobalt fast. If you want a fast car either get a v8 or something with less cylinders with forced induction. My 06 cobalt fell apart so ive got an 87 firebird with over 500 horsepower.. it'll kick a turbo'd cobalt's ass
between those 2 options, i would pick the ls...now give me the option between a cobalt or lets sat a 3000gt vr4 or a 300zx, than thats another story...**** the 240...go with something easier to mod
in the end go with the build you can see yourself finishing not quitting halfway through . if your serious about a 240sx check out Silviav8forums.com . theres a couple nasty builds in there .
i cant believe some of you are talking about modding a 2.2 over buying a 240 as a project car. id buy a 240 and put built sr20 in there. rwd and lightweight. one of the fastest cars around my area is a 240sx with some fat ass tires.
Personally I'd keep the balt. With the 1k or 1.5k you'd spend to but a 240, you could almost pay for a F/I kit or a pretty good exhaust setup. Also, a big factor ito me is also the reliability of the car. Since the cobalt is fairly new it should last a bit longer than a 15-20 year old car. Plus u kinda know how abused ur balt is and whatever, who knows what condition a used 240 is in. Plus u can spend ur money just for performance for the balt and not have to worry about puttin money towards keeping the 240 engine alive if something were to break/go bad.
those cars are old as **** so if you actually want a nice one you're going to need to spend dough on maintenance just to bring it up to par and then you'll probably need body work on top of that which = $$$
if you can't afford to get both then I would put money into the car you already have.
new car > old car
you will spend more money on the 240 is why

That and you must not have ever seen a clean 240sx. Probably just a bunch of shitbox Honda guys that got a 240 because of Tokyo drift.
No offense. I'm just saying.
With the drifting craze 240s have seriously lost there appeal to me espcially when the prices for them went up.
It costs money period to build a car properly. Some can be done cheaper if your saavy with shops and classifieds but its not cheap ever.

so your saying the RWD 240SX is worse than a FWD Cobalt for drag?

Given 240SX isn't anything special, the rwd will always be the dominant in dragging. Given who has a 240 for dragging after tokyo drift.
