I'm going to the track tomorrow, and, frankly, my air filter is pretty fucked up on my CAI, Its completely crushed in and it cant be very free-flowing anymore.
Would it be a horrible Idea to remove my air filter for my runs?

I know it wont make much of a difference, but every little bit helps

 

dont remove the air filter u could damdge your enigne permantley it will suck all air and debris right into your engine if u get a rock or something in there then u could have sme problems just go to auto zone buy a new one and return your old one in the box fro the new one alot of times they dont inspect them that good and youll get it freee

 

Autozone filters are like 40 bucks

 

wow they are 15 bucks here but your taking back same night buy one then put your old one in the box the new one came in and return it they dont usally inspect them they just open box to be sure its in there

 

please keep your filter,if something get into your motor and **** things up and if you need too be tow at the dragstrip and if all this little story come to your dealership when you ll ask for warrenty,they ll laught at you and you ll be screwed

 

I would say it's not a smart idea to remove your filter, but a lot of the more powerful cars at the track don't use them. Depending on how exposed the filter is now, you could be ok if you removed it. I don't think it would make a big enough diff to do it, so I'd just leave your current one on to be safe.

 

I know alot of the LS1 f-body guys use to pull their air filters off at the track and use some panty hose to cover the throttle body to keep anything substantial from getting sucked into the motor. At least that gives you some protection for the motor.

 

Track is probably the worst place to run w/o an air filter, depending on the conditions of the track too.

 

I wouldn't do it. It's not worth the gain. And besides, if you do that, you aren't getting an acurate idea of what you run on the street if u mod for the track

 

I have a ram air extension that I can bolt up to my intake, I run it at the track only when I use it, and cannot have an air filter on it. As long as you don't have really dusty conditions with a lot of wind, you will be fine. considering how long you'll be actually driving the car with no filter, it's not the end of the world.
