What are the best mods for a 2.2 to increase mpg?

With a CAI and full exhaust I can get 37+mpg on the highway.

 

what brand cai and exhaust it is my gf car and she will be doing mostly city driving

 

any CAI, any catback, any header

 

no mods will help your Mpg... well in most cases anyway... with and intake and exhaust your gunna wanna hear the car make noise so you'll step on it harder... you best mod for MPG would be to downgrade and get an aveo... lol

 

Driving style

Weight reduction (this is especially relevant for city driving)

Intake (this is more relevant to highway driving. CAI offers slightly more power but mpg will see no significant increase over a short-ram), header, exhaust.

honestly if you want good gas economy.. DONT LET YOUR CAR BREATHE>..

so.. no intake, no exhaust, nothing.. keep it stock, keep a clean air filter.. fresh oil.. clean fuel filter..

im tellin ya... once ya let ur motor breathe.. say bye bye to gas economy

i am getting 38-40 mpg

w/ cai, header, dp, exhaust and tune

 

i get 26-28mpg city with intake, header, dp, exhaust, and solid mounts

 

your going to go out and spend $600+ for a Intake/Header/Downpipe/Exhaust to gain 3-4mpg maybe... Driver Mod > all that

although getting those mods will also get you power and performace if you want it, and better mpg at the same time...

 

 

how the hell do cobalt owners hit 40mpg....both my buddys say there cars got 40+mpg...i got a best of 35mpg stock....i get like 32 now(intake,2 1/4 catback and SS downpipe)....

my cavalier Z24 used to suck on gas.....then i turboed it and gas milage actually improved greatly....i was kinda scratchin my head like huh?....320cc injectors,7psi on a 57trim,and full catless 3 inch exhaust....i got probly 20-22 mpg turboed...crazy how that worked

 

when u drive shiftin at 2000-2500rpm like the shift light says u can get great mileage

 

hold on, i thought added power kills gas not save it. cause isnt if you add more air into the engine, more fuel is required?

 

haha, that'd be me, i'm addicted to modding. If I owned a moped, I'd end up doing something to it..lol.

Well certainly that means no one else can ever turbo a moped.

Best mod to save on gas would be not romping on the car. I started driving slower, not accelerating faster like normal and my mpg went up.

 

Take the bus.

 

It's not about the power, it's about the restriction. It takes energy for the engine to suck in air and push out exhaust. The greater the restriction, the more energy is required and the more fuel needs to be burnt.

Just because you have i/h/e on your car doesn't mean that there's always more air going to your engine, it just means that there is less resistance to air entering and exiting your engine, allowing the energy that was once used to pump that air to be used for turning the crank.
