cams?
ill start of by sayin if youre gonna ask me why i didnt search its because im lazy and didnt feel like it lol. but my question is this, i have a 2.2 cobalt with a 2.4 intake manifold, throttle body, upgraded valvetrain, forged internals, gt3076r turbo, 3" downpipe, ss/tc cat back, meth and tuned. im going to be lookin towards cams in a bit and ive been told before that i prolly dont need cams for my car which i dont see why i wouldnt. but if i was to get cams what size would yal recommend for a turbo application? thanks

Put in some HKS 272's.
I'll sell you some 2.2L Cam Blanks to take to a Machine Shop to get them ground onto. |
they make a turbo grind cam... i believe ttr has them...
|
ive thought about 272s. do you know of a video of a cobalt that has them on so i can see how they sound? also how much power you think i might gain? and how much are the blanks?

ive checked them out as well. if possible id like to get used ones that has low miles on them instead of payin $500 for new ones It is bad enough to run a new cam on used lifter buckets. Best is for all new, but used buckets on a new cam is what most do. |

You never want to run a set of used cams on another set of used lifter buckets BTW.. Old rule of tumb on engine building.

No video of Cobalts with them... not that many Cobalts have done cam swaps. Just listen to videos of DSM's and/or Evo's running HKS272's.
$150 + shipping for the blanks. |

not a bad price. how much do you think it will cost to cut them? and would i end up needing to leave my car at the machine shop for them to get it right?
And no, you shouldn't. |
your pushing the max power an l61 can handle
|
sounds good. let me hit you up later about them blanks. ima call a couple machine shops in the state and see how much they'd charge

crank forged + a 2L head = 20psi+
2L head flow better in boost situation. you have already valvetrain at the max. |
i dont think the 2.0 head will fit. my best bet with my is head PnP and valve job to flow better. who sells forged cranks?
|
patz24, you remember the cavalier with the same setup
he run a 2L head on it |
he has a SS head on his cavy?
|
i saw it by my own eye
|
lol aight. i just didnt know people did that. sounds like alot of work and rewiring tho
|
yes, a 2L head on a l61.
rewire i dont know but remove that it harder |
how much hp and tq should i gain from cams?
|
Depends on the grind, tune, etc.
You could easily gain a good bit. 272's will shift your powerband up... you'll probably gain a very good amount of power. |
i dunno
but you dont buy it for hp because you r boost buyu it for the loppy sound |
well i got a friend whos knows about high performance stuff and he said he will help me before he gets out the air force for medical reasons but i just wanna know if the gains is worth the money/time or if theres somethin else i should blow my money on. i love the sound of cams and if i was to get some i hope i could pass inspections. robert, have you priced shipping yet for the blanks?
