Subject: RE: cam question 1295

88958648, can be used in all three Ecotec engines.
If installed by your local dealership it would carry the balance of the factory warranty, or have a 12 month, or 12.,000 mile warranty whichever occurs first.
The GM parts catalog does not list estimated gains of the camshaft performance kit.
The performance parts catalog does not list whether or not the valve train requires to be upgraded.

Thank you for choosing www.GmPartsDirect.com

Thats quite a bit for cams, plus the dealership probly wouldnt touch the car. (unless you have a cool dealer)

I suggest if you want cams goto an aftermarket site and buy them there. It completly slips my mind who offers them right now but i know theres a few for cheaper.

I would say that the dealer will install them for nothing short of an arm and a leg

Cams arent hard to install on the 2.2. They're literally right on top when you take off the head.

why doesn't GM give info about gains, operating range or if you'll need to upgrade the valve springs for the cams?

Close. The are literally right on top when you take off the VALVE COVER. Taking off the head would just plain suck ass.

If you have a socket set and a torque wrench you can really do this job yourself. Get a knowledgable buddy and a six pack and make an afternoon of it.

as to the part of the cams being used in all three engines... aren't the ones for the 2.0 longer than the others?

I have wondered this myself. The LSJ uses a cam timing sensor which I thought means the exhaust cam has a little longer end on it to attach to the sensor. But so far every source I have checked says they are interchangeable. I have only checked Comp Cams and GMPP.

no .. lol i wish.. you wont have that deep lobe like a v8 because of the displacement of the motor, it will sound more .. im not sure of the word im looking for.. ill think about it and get back to you.

The cams for the 2.0 are not the same as the 2.2's. Comp Cams made that mistake and actually shipped out cams that fit the 2.2 but would not fit the 2.0. I personally talked to Comp about this. That is the reason I ended up going to JBP for my cams.

The specks out of the GMPP book for performance camshafts PN 88958648:

Duration @ 0.050" lift is 268 degrees on the intake and 268 degrees on the exhaust. Maximum lift is 0.464" for the intake and 0.464" on the exhaust. Lobe centerline is 232 degrees.

I'm curious on how they sound at idle in a stock engine -- do they cause a lope or do they idle fairly smooth? Anybody hear a 2.2L with these installed?

I don't think a 268 would make the car sound any different

You're right that 268 looks sedate. However, the lobe separation is not listed -- if the lobe separation is 104-110 then the engine may be prone to lope. If the lobe separation is 112-118 then the idle wouldn't be bad.
I haven't worked with performance cams in Sequential Fuel Injection engines before -- only carburated and port injection -- could be a no-brainer.....just like to hear what this set sounds like first before I make a decision to purchase/install.

grr...time for me to be a newb again...
anyone wanna explain that the cams do? and why replacing would get better performance?
if i recall from howstuffworks.com, they regulated intake and exhaust during the 4 strokes...but i dont remember how exacly

If the intake stroke is longer, the cylinder can be filled with more air and fuel, thus more power. The cam also controls the amount of lift on the valves, the more lift, the more freeflowing the valve, the more air and fuel.
