Cobalt Fe1 to Fe5 Suspension Upgrade

Looking to finally upgrade my worn out and spongy suspension for something sportier but still suitable as a daily driver. I was looking into the Fe5 shocks and struts but was wondering if I needed to upgrade the springs at the same time. What type of performance increase would there be with better springs? What would happen if I stayed with the Fe1's? Any thoughts are appreciated.

thanks

fe 1 springs are soft,

aftermarket springs are a stiffer ride, better handling

look at Crate Engine Depot

Get the Pedders Springs and TC strut/shock combo

it will be your best choice

It would definitely be easier and feel better if you did both at the same time. I went FE5 and Eibach Sportlines and it is a huge difference in handling, just pure sex. Lol

Thanks for the feedback guys. This stuff gets confusing pretty quickly.

One more question though.... Was also wondering what differences there were between the Fe5 springs and say the pedders. I'm gona assume that the pedders are stiffer in resistance, but is it significant to warrant the big increase in price?

so its been.... almost a year.... since i posted this question, and I'm very happy to report that not only was the upgrade easy to do, but its results are awesome. with the new springs and suspension on the front and back (sstc) this thing is still slow to accelerate, but a blast cornering. The thing that pushed me over the edge to upgrade was the fact that I had 80,000 miles on the original setup and the car was starting to rock like a boat while braking.

to anyone considering this upgrade, its easy, and there's noticeable results.

I just finished the fe5/Pedders on a LS too. The combo is awesome and still comfortable on the street. I jumped to 16x7 wheels w/205/55-16s as well.

In my experience over the years, I actually prefer the SS Turbo FE5 Spring/Shock combo over anything within plus or minus $350 due to the performance comparison. I'm currently running the SS Turbo suspension on mine, pops is still running stock FE1 on his. The difference is obvious and the whole way the car pitches is better. I haven't really had any issues in the corners either, they seem to be a truly race inspired springs and inspire confidence.....but it's comfy enough to remind you that hey your in a FWD so don't go insane....one thing my Civic on a race suspension wouldn't do....
