Converting an LS to an SS

Hi, I bought a 05 cobalt LS back in march because where i was they didnt have the SS available yet. Now Im looking to upgrade my LS to an SS so to speak.

My LS is Fully Loaded and as far as i can tell has EVERYTHING that the SS has except the SC and the Leather detailed Interior. The rims on mine are gonna be switched out eventually as well so im not worried about those.

So the question is How Much does the SS SC Cost and If i were to buy a SC should i get the one that comes stock on the SS or can i get more for my money with some aftermarket SC?

Thanks.

loaded with xm radio and a sunroof, roughly 23,000. I would wait a couple of months, because GM is suppose to release a Supercharger for the 2.2 Ecotec's. As for the leather seats you could possibly go to a dealer and ask for the part numbers for em.

As for the seats im not worried, i have a 18 month old baby and im not sure how i feel about leather in my car with her juice boxes and stuff.

I do have a sunroof, xm radio, 7 speaker system, 16 inch alloys, and all the rest of the stuff , i made sure i got EVERYTHING available to get it as close to the SS as possible.

SO what your saying is that they havent came out with the SC for the 2.2 yet?

you should get yourself either some ss front and back bumpers or a body kit to make it look lower and add some lowering springs and pimp out the suspension so it will handle like a dream like the SS S/C

No supercharger is available for the 2.2L ECOTEC yet. The SS has a 2.0L ECOTEC so it's not a direct bolt on. Give it some time, I've heard rumors of GM releasing a S/C for the 2.2L very soon!

True...but hp will only go up to about 170 hp. Don't want to sound mean, but comparing a LS coupe to SS/SC coupe is like comparing a Mustang V6 to a GT. Performance wise, they are two very different cars IMO.

Arrival, maybe you can point me to where you read the supercharger package for the 2.2L will raise horsepower to only 175hp. I haven't managed to find anything from GM yet that indicates the HP gain to be expected from the 2.2L bolt-on. If that's the case I can't imagine GM is going to sell many S/C packages for $3000+ for a measley 30hp gain. I could add pulleys, headers, exhaust and CAI and increase my HP greather than 30 and for probably less than half the price.

I would expect to see 50hp - 60hp gains bringing the car between 195hp and 205hp. This number seems more realistic to me when talking in terms of a S/C or stage 1 turbo.

I got it from you. You posted this on 07-22-05: "...I've been looking at it but the numbers don't seem to be clear from here to there as far as horsepower upgrades go. I swear I read somewhere that it was a 60hp gain but other people are saying it's a 30hp gain since it's not intercooled...I'm so damned confused I'm not sure what's going on anymore." - did you not?

Other than that, I have no other facts to back up my claim that the GM 2.2L bolt-on supercharged is going to bring hp to 175 on the 2.2L. And I never mentioned anything about turbos which I imagine you can get an additional 60 hp out of.

Sell it and buy an SS. To do everything you need to make it exactly like the SS you're gonna be way behind money wise.

A honda accord costs $60,000 to build from dealer bought parts.

Nope, I don't think there is any published info out there on it yet. But they did have a prototype at the GM small car bash. It was just mounted on the wall and I think it's an M45 blower, anyone else see it at the bash and confirm that?

I think the supercharger kit for the old 2.4L Twincam gave a 40hp increase in that application. Hard to see them offering a kit for the 2.2L that only gives you 30hp.

Ya I did but I wasn't stating any concrete numbers anywhere, I was basically pointing out that there are a lot of different numbers flying around out there and no information from GM or anyone to back them online. The initial number I came up with (I REALLY wish I could remember where I saw it) was up to a 60hp gain but again I'm positive this wasn't from a GM source and there is really no mention of the specifics of the bolt-on kit for the 2.2L.

I wasn't questioning your original post I was just hoping maybe you'd found something online, etc. that the rest of us hadn't to help some of us in making our final decision about this bolt-on package. I figure if I don't see substantial HP increases to warrant a $4000 price tag I'm not going to bother with it and either wait other vendors to release their S/C packages or go with a turbo kit if this is the path I decide to take, but I'd really perfer to go with a GM made and tested part.

I already bought lowering springs, replaced the back Cobalt Light ( top one) I just really want to add a turbo or supercharger, any estimates on how much that would cost?

Im also gonna add a Body kit eventually.

if u want to make an SS, turbocharge it. with an intercooled stage one turbo, you will beat an SS. dont worry about turbo lag, the ecotec makes enough torque for low end performance. numbers will be simulair to my '91 SAAB 9000 turbo. the saab is extremely heavy to 4 banger standards, and it still runs all over the cobalt SS. ive done it. but since i own both, i can tell you that a turbo cobalt will beat my saab. and trust me, beat my saab and u can beat a SRT-4.

I just dont think the SS wing will flow with the non-SS models partly due to the lack of the valances and ground effects and to some extent the rims. If you do go with the SS body kit from GM I'd recommend you leave your LS spoiler on to see how it looks first before ordering the SS one...it would definitely be a different look. Also, try taking it off the car when the body kit is installed and see how it looks. I don't think it will flow correctly but it has the potential to look good.

It is your car so it's totally your call..just make sure you leave your options open before you start dropping money on parts left and right .

I was afraid this would happen... if you ant your car to be better thats fine... but dont go and say I want to turn my LS into an SS... thats just silly

Its no better than people buying stiock civics and putting SI badges on them

my LS came with the SS wing, i ordered it that way, but did get the chance to see it with the LS stock wing and it was OK

now with my SS its bangin.

I might get my car turbo charged still debating if i wanna drop that much money into a car. just for speed.
