Thumbs down Cooling

Is there anything for us to keep the engine a little cooler. i dont know about everyone else in FL but my car is running at like 221* all the time except for like 8in the morning and after 9pm when the sun has been down long enough. The car is not wanting to get up and go right away like usual...eh this sucks

any other time than summer my car runs at 208* maybe 215* some days

Edit your fans to come on immediately in HPTuners, and drill 3 holes in your thermostat (tiny holes)

I don't think it should be that high.

Take it to your dealership.

You have a heat exchanger

It's called your radiator lol

I was under the assumption you were under warranty. Can you give anymore details on what is going on with your car?

lol i know about the radiator just i figured maybe an "aftermarket" HE... if its the middle of the day and i try to take off it doesn't have the same "umph" as it does when its early morning or atleast an hour after dark... after an hour of dark my temp drops a few degrees...yes its hot in FL but jesus my car is acting up... think changing coolant will help at all? i also hope there is something that i can install to help too

you could try that purple ice stuff from royal purple, you might need a new thermostat too, also you could try to fit an electric fan from a 98-05 N-body (grand am, alero, malibu) fan, it has two fans on it insted of one

sounds like somthing is wrong with your car.

Do the basic stuff, flush out the coolant, replace thermostat, clean out radiator, make sure your fans are kicking on, etc..

if that doesnt work, your water pump may not be working right.

The coolant system is a fairly simple system and there are truly only a few things that could be wrong.

I think something may be up. It's not as hot up here in NY but my 2.2l (no mods + engine cover) never rises above 202 in the 90 degree days here. The engine is at it's hottest when colder at night I assume because the fans slowdown/turn off.

Replace the stock fan assembly with the LSJ twin fan setup
Connect the L-Blu wire from you motor to FAN1 and the Grey wire to FAN2 (and add the grounds of course)

im not sure what you mean by that
The 2.2 uses a "dual speed" cooling fan motor that has 3 wires going to it:
LOW SPEED POWER(L-Blu)
HIGH SPEED POWER (Grey)
GROUND (Black)

The 2 LSJ motors are both single speed type (even though they can be series wired for low speed)

Each motor MUST have both Power and ground so on the LSJ fan motors you will need to add the L-Blue and Grey wires AND a connection into the ground (black). So you have to connect the power to each THEN splice a pair of wires to the old ground so you have TWO grounds (one to each motor)

Don't just add your own ground use the original. That way you'll keep the "clamping" diode in the circuit and prevent radio noise when the high speed fan turns off

PS> If you find one of these LSJ fan assemblies in a salvage yard make sure you cut the wires to try to take the connectors too. Barring that you can purchase a pair of "pigtailed" fan motor connectors from GM PN# 88988311

The L61 fans are programmed as follows:

The ECM commands Low Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:
• Engine coolant temperature (ECT) exceeds approximately 106°C (223°F).
• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1 310 kPa (190 psi).
• After the vehicle is shut off, the ECT at key-off is greater than 140°C (284°F) and system voltage is more than 12 volts. The fans will stay on for approximately 3 minutes.

The ECM commands High Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:
• ECT reaches 110°C (230°F).
• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1 655 kPa (240 psi).
• When certain DTCs set

When the request for fan activation is withdrawn, the fan may not turn OFF until the ignition switch is moved to the OFF position or the vehicle speed exceeds approximately 10 mph. This is to prevent a fan from cycling ON and OFF excessively at idle.

SO
If you wanted to use the LSJ fans to create maximum cooling you would just connect BOTH fans to the L-Blu and then BOTH fans would run at the LOW speed command points.
