Cooling system question

Just askin another dumb question. My coolant range is not stable and fluctuates from 190 degrees when moving and to the high limit of 220 when sitting still. That just seems unstable and too high. It does this even when it's 30 degrees outside. I tried a water wetter and it helps a little but not much. Do u guys think my water pump is weak?? No leaks that i can see. Just can't be good on my trans to be fluctuating that much....Any ideas??

first of all, 190-220 is perfectly normal. second, the coolant temp has absolutely no effect on the transmission.

The L61 Cobalt operates most efficiently around 190 degrees, which is why it is at that tempurature when you are moving. When sitting still the fans don't kick on until higher (probably somewhere around 220) which is why the temp goes up when sitting still. No air = higher temps. When sitting still the temp getts higher for emissions reasons. Higher temps = lower emissions.

If the coolant temp starts getting to 240 then you can worry.
