downpipe and headers, noob
downpipe and headers, noob
I did some searching but couldn't find anything so I'm making a new thread. If you know of a thread with an answer to my question, please show me it.
I have an 07 ls stock, only has a cherrybomb tip.
I was looking up downpipes and headers but I don't really understand. I know on downpipes I should get a 2.5 but was wondering if the cat or no cat made a difference? I don't really care if I don't have a cat. but I wanna know if there is a big difference.
headers:... what is that? I need explanation, and somewhere I can order them from, or a shop in san antonio, texas. Thanks.

also i don't think the other guy was necessarily throwing him under the bus but more saying good lucking finding 2 headers as our cars only have 1 type of deal.
okay I found one and it asks me all these options.
it says, model:
offroad no o2 bung, offroad with o2 bung, or high flow cat
2.5" weld in, or bolt in
no extra bung, or extra bung
no gaskets, or front and back gaskets
so what would I get?

well basically to see if you have SAI (secondary air injection) or not, pop the hood and there there will be a tube going from your intake box to the exhaust manifold if you have it. if there's nothing there then you don't have it.
in regards to the options are you going to be adding in a wideband with it or at anytime in the future. if the answer is yes then you will need a total of 3 O2 bung's put in. 1 after the cat and 2 before the cat. and you will want the gaskets so that you don't have to go out and match some up at the parts store. and you might as well go with the high flow cat

I have to say I am happy to see people with patience back on this board...
Oh and a full answer to your cat question:
"Remember, you will only flow as well as the greatest restriction. If you have a poor cat or muffler design then it will choke the flow no matter how good the rest of the system is designed. Fortunately straight through mufflers and newer high flow cats flow very well. Having a cat is not only good for the environment, but we have seen very little power difference in levels in excess of over 350 h.p. Why be dirty when you can make just as much power while keeping tree hugging hippies happy? Also, a cat tends to quiet things down a little."

hey i can admit when i'm wrong, i've always been taught like others that some degree of backpressure is still necessary. i learn new things everyday, its how i grow. didn't have to go all caps and bold on me lol

Same thing happens when I hear someone put a wing on a FWD and says it adds traction... also with any general ricer thoughts.... But I'm a ricer so idk man...
wow so many answers. lol. well I found a header on badmab and a zzp 2.5 downpipe.
2 more questions.
what is wideband?
is the downpipe just a small part of the entire exhaust? will it only replace half of the entire exhaust system or the entire thing, if yes then can I keep my cherrybomb exhaust? no negative comment, I actually love the sound it gives out, so I'm gonna keep it

OP, Go out to your car, pop the hood, look behind the hood, you will see your stock manifold(header) and a 3 bolt flange, from that flange down to the two bolt flange underneath the car about even with the rear of the doors is the downpipe. A wideband is a gauge that monitors your air fuel ratio it is acurate to less than half a point, it is manditory for a highly acurate tune. I suggest googling some of your more basic questions. Most people on this forum will eat you alive about things.
Sorry... Backpressure and people saying it is needed is like someone kicking my dog... it really annoys the **** out of me Lol.

and ya ricer's need to learn the wing doesn't add traction. all it does it help with stability in some situations but mainly its just looks on a FWD
