engine and tranny swap
I understand what your saying... but this is a slightly different situation. Seems like he is just posting because he is pumped of what he is doing and just telling us since he might be the first to do it (not sure).
Hopefully he isn't bullshiting because I personally would love to see this done

But im not sure if he was talking about the labor too...
GM isn't Honda, it's not a yank-y yank-y swap-y swap-y kinda thing. It's a lot more involved.

no i payed for the engine and tranny with some of my birthday money and i sold my engine and tranny. tranny went for about 900 dollars and my 2.2L engine went for 1000. i bought a used engine with around 32k on it and my friend got me the tranny for cheap from his cousin so i had money left over. ill post pictures up in about 2 - 3 weeks when ever it gets done. To prove all you ******* ******* im not lying.
cannot wait to see this either, although I would of gotten pics of the parts atleast before posting knowing how much everyone hates to believe somebody here. Good luck w/ the build, thought about doing it too, guy I know knew of a wrecked SC(rear ended by f250) and he could of gotten the car for like 1400 or something and since it was all rear end damage and everything else was fine it would just be a simple strip and swap thing(well not simple but you get my point, everything was there, no chasing parts). But I did not have the cash and thought of all the other stuff that I would need and why do all that work for a car that may or may not be in my garage a couple years from now.

good luck and all, sounds cool
will do absolutely nothing for the Delta community as like usual the people taking on major projects have no real car knowledge themselves and are just paying someone else to do the work.
do everyone a favor and get this mechanic guy to make an account and provide some details...

I already swapped my 2.2 for a 2.0, it was easy, took me like 3 hours, all i had to do was
1.disconnect the battery
2.pop the hood
3.disconnect a few plugs (wherever you see one just disconnect them, sometimes they hide!)
4.unbolted the subframe and lowered the engine/tranny/subframe to the floor
5.Lift the car up and over the the engine and set it aside
6.i took the old engine off the subframe and bolted the new one on with the new transmission
7.now basically you just reverse the process, dont forget to plug the battery back in!
6.to add more horsepower put SS/SC emblems on the back!

he said that the total cost is 2,000. i assume that's why. probably would have cost more to get the super and everything else you need to go along with it.

what axles did you use?
i had a guy i know custom fab me some carbon fiber axles, (which isn't all a lie i actually do have a friend that makes axles from carbon fiber just for dump trucks though)
but seriously a nitrous kit (150 shot), new rods and pistons, and new valve springs... 2000 dollars and your looking at around 300hp, no crazy engine swapping and still a complete sleeper, plus your average weekend warrior could do it in a weekend with a friend no sweat.

I dunno...this seems odd kind of as well. I would like to see pics and progress pics.
I'd also like to know why you'd be so much lighter than a SS/SC. You're still a cobalt. I dunno, I don't want to call BS, but something doesn't seem right.

i dunno why it would weigh different, but the 2008 cobalt seems to weigh 300 pounds more then what i thought my 06 weighs. i'm assuming that everything that would make the SS/SC weigh more is in the engine, like the supercharger itself, the tranny might weigh more, but other then that???? the sideskirts, front lip and spoiler maybe????

Leather seats add weight, I'd say 20lbs?
Upgraded stereo, plus the sub in the back - 10lbs?
Power windows - 10 lbs? 5 lbs? not sure how much all the mechanisms weigh
Rear brakes - again, not sure how much heavier than drums, maybe 10lbs (5lbs a side)
Power locks - probably only a couple pounds
Larger wheels - 20lbs probably
Power mirrors - another few pounds
Side airbags - 5 lbs maybe
Body kit - hard to say 15 lbs maybe? plus the fog lights if the base doesn't have them - so maybe 25 lbs?
Sunroof - the biggest piggy of them all, anywhere from 50lbs - 75 lbs (in some cars like the G6 or the Mini Cooper S, the sunroof - glass plus motor - weighs over 100lbs!)
So it allllllllllllll comes down to options, and on the SS a lot of those options aren't options - they're standard.
