everyone who has had issues with power steering
everyone who has had issues with power steering
ok my car just hit over 60k, its an 06 and lastnight i was driving back to virginia from pittsburgh and my power steering light came on and lost all power steering, i shut the car off and it came back, its comes back every 10mins or so.. so my question is.. how much luck has everyone had with GM replacing this part that needs replaces for free? it shouldve been recalled but its not.. i refuse to pay for something that GM knows thats wrong, im having the same issues with the key getting stuck in the ignition as well.. i may just trade the car in for a newer one or something.. so help me guys make a descision here lol
eh like i always said before, i havent had powersteering for 2 years now, i just drive it like it is, never getting a chevy again. Waiting to pay this car off and getting a genesis coupe next.
im not sure what mine is, but from reading all the posts about it, id assume its the VSS as well.. how much did it cost you OBZ? i think this may be a good reason for me to get a new car anyways
and tanelk.. def get a genesis.. my parents have an 09 and its beyond technology sucks i aint allowed to drive it though lol

warranty covered mine as well. Happened at 18K or so.
Plus I was working at a Chevy dealer at the time.
It is indeed a known issue, the Cobalt and the Malibu (pre redesign) run the exact same power steering setup and the Malibu is more notorious for having an issue. The motor overheats and fails.
If you hold out long enough GM may be forced to do a recall on it...I anticipate many techs wanting such to happen lol.
Best bet is to call your dealer, see if you can swing a deal, if not either fork out the $$ and hold onto that invoice in case they recall down the road or wait it out.

hell mine went out but my warrenty is up bought a used one on ebay for $50 changed it out in 20 mins and i have power steering again the motors are known to go out around 50,000 miles or so plus there on back order is what i was told from every dealership i went to and i belive there is a tsb out on it
i posted a thread similar to this. its the electronic power steering motor or its control module. what you need to file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. GM is doing a recall on it yet. I've been told by dealerships that the whole steering column needs to be replaced, but its bullshit.
I just hit 30K miles and at a stand still I can turn the wheel back and forth just fine, then when I try to turn it a LOT, it starts to get really hard to turn.
Took it in for warranty (I'm good till 100K) and they said they couldn't find anything... wtf?

it goes undetectable. once the problem occurs dont turn the car off but take it to the dealership immediatly thats the only way they can diagose it
but that is why they sell extended warranty they offer it and if you neglect to buy it then what ever happens after the basic is your loss i have replaced a bunch of things on mine before and after the basic warranty just depends on how you take care of it you know what i mean
