First post here, need help with first repairs/mods to '08 Cobalt LT
Hey gang,
My '08 LT 2.2L (that's an L61, right?) is automatic and has almost 60k miles on it. It's been really really good for me and my family to this point, so it's time I return the favor. I haven't done anything beyond the basic oil changes, fluids, an air filter, etc.
I just replaced the OEM Hankook tires with about 58k miles on them with some BFGoodrich Advantage T/As and got an alignment. I'm looking to replace my brakes and fix/replace a few other small things about the Cobalt. I'm not planning on doing any exhaust/turbo/etc things to the Cobalt or make it a "tuner". I have my wife driving it with my 3-year old in the backseat most of the time, so that's why I own a 2009 Buell 1125CR motorcycle (look it up).
Been lurking a while and reading articles. The How-To section is pretty sweet, and I did use search for a few things to no avail. What I'm looking for should hopefully have some pretty straightforward answers. So, on to the questions:
1) Auto shifter knob button is broken. Just the button that allows me to shift out of P. Can I replace just the plastic button? Or do I have to order a whole new shifter knob @ ~$70-ish.
2) Has anyone replaced their keyfob with a different GM keyfob, like (this Cadillac one?) One of my OEM Keyfobs is broken. The metal contacts from the battery holder to the circuit board have come off. I have no soldering skills, so I could either order (a new OEM replacement) or the Cadillac CTS keyfob.
vs
3) Can I pull out the front headlight amber turn signal lens/cover? My LT came with front amber turn bulbs but no lenses - got in an accident last Winter and the body shop replaced my headlights - and I never realized until last week that the replacement headlight had an amber turn signal lens/cover. Is that possible to do? If so, is it easy?? Or am I better off leaving it in there.
4) Anyone have a part # for the rubber brake pedal cover (automatic trans) and any possible glue/adhesive? I don't need to replace the entire pedal set, just the rubber cover is worn down pretty bad.
Lastly, if anyone have a GM Service/Parts Manual in .PDF for an '08 Cobalt LT, I'd greatly appreciate it! =)

On the topic of the amber lense in your headlight: If you feel like baking your headlight to remove it, by all means. It just kinda snaps in there. I've heard of guys taking the whole headlight out of the car and smashing up the reflector with a screwdriver or something long that will reach it, and dumping out the scraps, but that seems like it is an unreliable way.
P.S.- You do have an l61, LAP was 09-10.
