Im sure you do feel gains b/c the uncovered filter is drawing more air then the stock does. As for "real intake" vs "homemade intake" that is up to you. I dont think your going to see substantial gains over your current setup but it does look nicer then what you have.

We literally made a list of 20 or 30 things that were "inexpensive mods"

chopping stock antenna, debadging, removing exterior trim, painting interior trim, intake mod, remove intake silencer, nightshade's, LED replacement bulbs (reverse, license plate, trunk, interior lights)

there are a ton.

do you have a gauge that tells you your intake air temp or are you just guessing, b/c your coolant temp didnt go up?

Yeah, that's why i didn't say anything. Your coolant temp and intake tempature is 2 completely seperate readings.

Probably the only free "mods" would be debadging and the resonator removal... Ebay intake, weight reduction

Other inexpensive ones would be painting our calipers/drums, painting your wheels... painting your headlamps.......thats all i can think of right now

no I sent the car with a buddy of mine a couple days after I did it b/c I was going out of town and he said he used a gauge to check the temp and said that there wasn't much of a difference in temp. So he said it wasn't enough to consider...

ummm, cheap mods? just be creative. buy some sand paper, and some krylon paint. walmart is always cheap. i've painted numerous parts of my interior, and i've spent probably all of 100 bucks. however, i've painted 2 doors, my dashboard, glove, underneath the steering wheel, center console...pretty much everything. but that price includes sand paper. n i buy alot of it. lol. ummm, how about a couple LED lights off ebay? paint ur mirrors. i painted mine white. paint the gaudy looking black thing (idk the name of it) underneath the hood where the chevy badge is, (painted mine white). ummmm, de-badge it. paint the hood emblem (wrapped mine in cf, same as the gas tank). shift boot/shift knob, cheap. ummm make an intake. i made mine for about 100 bucks with the k&n filter. buy some hose covers, they're like 10 bucks. paint ur valve cover (high temp paint recommended). i mean...the list goes on. u just gotta be creative. i try to think of things nobody/few people have done. i haven't done much of it though because...lol...most of it costs money. like someone said "U gotta pay to play". but i mean, u can do so many inexpensive mods. u just gotta creative, and PLEASE donnot put a big spoiler on ur car. lol. thats absolutely horrible. if u want any ideas PM me, or look in my pictures section. I have more pics coming up, i just haven't had time to put them up. i sanded and painted my dashboard this weekend and it looks nice. lol. but idk...look in the How-To section for ideas. and if u want, i can tell u exactly what parts u need for an intake from Pep-Boys. the hardest part would be dremeling a hole out for ur MAF, which isn't hard btw. i gave u alot of cheap "show" mods u can do. but for performance, ehhh little bit more money. but "hey, all in the name of speed."-blown_4_banger.

yea my LS is sitting 85 pounds lighter then stock.

took out my rear seats, rear seat bracket, all 3 rear seat belts, spare + jack, engine cover and anything else that was never used like baby carriage brackets. i like the sound of the removed resonator, i don't think there is a diff in performance but it sounds hallf as good as an intake and I can't touch the engine because of warranty.

85 pounds total so i feel faster...

free mods, remove everything that adds weight and isnt necessary, every piece of interior trim, the carpet, seats, a pillars, the dash, seatbelts, cluster, spare tire, all heat shields and sound deadening, radio, etc. If you completly strip that car and drop enough weight youll be fast as ****. you wont get any dates in it if you have to drive around sitting on a milkcrate though, haha
