GM Performance cat-back exhaust

Hey everyone, I am buying the GM Performance cat-back exhaust for my Cobalt.

I am going to order it from crateenginedepot.com for $500.00

Sadly my dealer wants roughly $240.00 to install it, which is a total scam if you ask me.. but that's besides the point.

I was wondering how many of you have this exhaust and what you think of it.

My more specific questions are:

Is there a silencer that you can take off? (I ask this because in most videos it seems a little quiet, but then again videos don't exactly do justice at all.)

How is the cabin noise?

I heard they tune the engine afterwards if you have it done at the dealer.. (Can someone verify this?)

Is it worth the price?

Thanks!

It's not that quiet...I had it on my 2.2l and it was making a real deep tone...It was a bit loud in the cabin but it was worth the price...

$240.00 to install it!?! Do you have any friends who know how to turn a wrench and use a screwdriver? If so, enlist their help and just do it yourself!

Its worth the price, every bit of it. Thats kinda cheap too. If you want sound, just make sure you get the Sport and not the Touring or whatever you call it. The cabin noise is loud as you would expect. But its not overly loud. WHen you roll your windows down, its gonna sound awesome IMO.

I have a question for you.... When you sign in, do you often put too many damn 'x' in... because you damn sure have a lot of them.. just askin

It's pretty loud from what I've heard, nothing crazy loud, but not quiet. That's a ripoff from the dealer, DIY or have someone help you out. They don't tune the car after it.

well when mine was installed, it was a little more complicated than that. I don't think it is worth 240.00 bucks, but the ass of my car had to be dropped to get it out in one piece. Luckily for me, i resold the factory exhaust to a kid that wanted it and had an LS. Anyhoo, if you don't care about it being in one piece, then i don't think it is difficult at all. Everything is already bent and it gives you play by play so it shouldn't be that hard to install for yourself.

I have before, yes.

It is a forum name, for every forum I have enlisted in since as far back as I can remember, and it just stuck.

As for installing it myself, what if I mess something up and it needs work..

Won't they void my warranty if they found out it wasn't dealer installed?

As long as it was put on correctly, they wont void your warranty.

thats a good damn question. But i don't think so because my friend terry installed mine. And as long as nothing is related to the exhaust ****** up, then i'd say you're in the clear. I dont' think you will **** it up, just have a knowledgeable friend handy that way you save money.

do these exhausts actually do anything to the performance that a megan exhaust or any other cat back would do?

Sorry, don't take me as a moron..

However, the service dude at my dealership says something along the lines of.. "If it's welded on too close to this, and something happens to your transmission then we will void your warranty.

I've seen pictures of it and stuff and I was like, what the hell is this man talking about welding..?

no welding. Just bolt on everything. Insert this here, turn this here... that type of ****. Nothing that a tech HAS to do..

So if I do it myself, and God forbid something happens.. and they find out it wasn't dealer installed, and insist to blame it on that, will they void my warranty?

..Because if it's bolt on, I mean how can they said you messed something up.

dude i used to think the same thing until i said **** it. dealers are not as **** as you think. i had bald ass tires from obviously burnouts on rims, and an injen cold air intake. my 2nd gear synchro blew, and i had it warranteed. i got my car back with a new 2nd gear, and no questions asked. I would not have a chevy dealer install it either for that price. any local garage will do it way cheaper........good luck

Well hell, if it's bolt on.. I guess you can't really mess up unless you're a blithering fool.

Just make sure you get everything aligned and tucked up nicely before you tighten the bolts all the way. I did mine in 30 minutes.

Thats bull ****, at mine it was less than $50 and they did it on 10 minutes notice on a Saturday, I was going to do it myself but dint have a lift to use.

There is no silencer.

I have the touring and can hear it in the cabin under acceleration, but just barely at crusing speed.

They don't tune for it. Just lets the engine exhale a little better.

You are not really paying for the performance with a 2.2, mostly for the sound and the look without that huge muffler sticking out the bottom.

Do you NEED a lift?

..And yeah $240.00 to tighten a couple bolts, and connect it to a few hangars.

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it, I pretty much just walked out after that.

Nah, I installed mine on jackstands. If my dumb ass can do it, I'm sure you can too

I just wonder what will happen if something happens to my car, and they're like.. "Oh, hey.. that exhaust.. yeah about that.. it wasn't installed by us, so.. your warranty is now voided.

You don't need a lift, but without one you will be crawling around on the ground.

And I was editing my post to answer your other questions, your just too fast for me.
