Header for 2.2

I am in the market to getting a header for my 2.2 and I was wondering is there any big difference between the brands? I see some listed for $400 and others less than $200. I would rather spend the least possible, but at the same time I want something that is quality, so if I need to spend the $400 then so be it. It just seems to me (not a car expert) that there couldn't be TOO much of a difference in them. Thanks for any helping regarding this.

Not to rob your thread or anything but I need some info too because im currently running nitrous and I am looking for some performance headers but I can't find any and CA's has fitment issues on my car's year n model. The Official header thread is pretty good but doesn't give too much info on the fitment side.

There are a few things to consider. First, do you have SAI? Click here. Next, do you want a shorty header that will fit your stock downpipe, or a long tube header that will require a custom pipe? Pacesetter is a long tube style and will require a shop to weld up a pipe for you.

^^ + 1 Do you want to buy a header that is a little more expensive but that will also bolt right up or do you want to go with a cheaper one that will cost more for labor?

The long tube header. It has the least restrictive flow.

I don't know dude...I found a GMPP one? I think you are able to order it from your local Chevy dealer. I usually try to stick with factory parts. After market tends to have higher performance numbers, but factory parts are usually better quality...IMO.

THE GMPP is just a stock exhuast manifold that is honed out, IMO it is not the greatest thing to do. You will see a power increase, however nothing like you will see with the full tube header.

Isn't there a header I can get with a downpipe already? And would this hook to a stock exhaust, or would I need to get an exhaust also? I am pretty uninformed when it comes to these things, but am I right when I say the header connects to the downpipe which connects to the exhaust?

Ok my question is what is the best shorty header, performance wise, because i will not leave the downpipe stock so it wont be restrictive. I dont want long tubes because i dnt want any fabrication issues. I also have the 2005 ls with the fitment issue so i a little limited.

To add to this. If I just a header now, and there has to be adjustments made, will this have any effects on getting a downpipe and exhaust system later? Also, is the pacesetter header good? And whats the main difference between the painted and armor coated? I can get the painted one for $100 less. Also $262.49 is the price for the armor coated at TurboTechRacing, is this the best I can get?

Ceramic, will stay show quality (polished/shiney looking), where as the black paint will burn off over time. I would personally get the ceramic coated.

No. The Downpipe contains the Catalytic Converter. That's its main purpose. You want it to be separate from the header for that reason. You have to order right. You can buy a header, a downpipe, or a Cat-back. Getting all three is really the only way to go. If you just get a header for instance, the nice freed up flow now just runs into the restrictive downpipe and slows back down again.

1. The description says PaceSetter header DOES NOT fit model with EGR. I have a 07 Cobalt LS automatic trans. coupe. Does it have an EGR? How would I find out?

2. If I bought the PaceSetter header, which downpipe could I go with? I'd like one without a cat, would that be legal and/or would I pass inspection?

1. No EGR, your fine.
2. A custom DP is required to use the Pacesetter. Cats depend on your state laws. I'm in Illinois, so I have to have a cat.

stick with a stock LSJ manifold.... best bang for your buck, and you can pick em up fairly cheap on here

My opinion on my pacesetter header....

I went with a cat delete setup, and that swivel joint just plain out SUCKS. It's probably going to take me a full day just to remove it weld everything up add a connection so I can remove it later, etc.

Other than the swivel joint I love it.
