Hey has anyone put on a highflow cat? I heard the stock cat is very restrictive, Also if you have upgraded did you get a Cel? I was thinking about this high flow performance cat, think its good?

High flow cats are restrictive because it's a catalytic converter...that's its job but it's less restrictive than your stock one. I would only suggest getting one if you're upgrading the rest of your exhaust and keeping the diameter the same (example: 2 1/4" cat-back piping, so you would get a 2 1/4" diameter catalytic converter).

As far as CEL with the Cobalts, I don't know.

 

right i plan on upgrading my exhaust to a custom or corsa 2.5'' so i figured i would need a 2.5'' catlalytic converter. Anyone recommend a certain brand?

 

I'm assuming you want 2 1/2" for boost (looking at your other post), if you're not, than 2 1/2" is too big for an n/a setup.

If you want a higher flowing cat, just buy the downpipe and catalytic converter off a cobalt ss/sc, same oem fit but bigger piping than whats on the 2.2L

 

its not a bad thing to switch to an high flow cat but you can have a magnaflow cat for less at gravana.com

 

I just can't beleive the factory cat is so bad. You want to see awful catalytic converters? Look at car from the mid 70's. Now those were restrictive!

 

Why would it be too big? i plan on upgrading to a 2.5 exhaust wouldnt i need to upgrade the cat as well? or would i not have enough back pressure? Im not saying the old cat is crappy or anything i heard it true airflow is around 2'' .

 

its not about back pressure, its about exhaust velocity

 

This is the link to a thread that I posted about a direct bolt in replacement high flow cat from Random Technology. It's not yet avaible but is supposed to be in the works. The 2.2L has a much more restictive cat than the 2.0L. The 2.2L cat has an outlet that measures just under 2.0".
