Almost none but it will definately set you back in the pocket.

P.S. The car will sound faster even if it's all in your head...

Yes but the comparison was to a stock filter.

If you just swap the stock filter for a K&N you pick up 5 whp in the stock box...

Ok, It's not that big of a diference either way. Compared to a real power adder like 15 Psi of boost, 5 is not that impressive and to me not worth $200.00...

Well, you could just trade your car back to the dealer for a 2.0 SS/SC. No expensive mods required.

I wouldn't bother sinking money into it. But if you insist, I suppose an intake would be the first mod in a long list of expensive upgrades.

You know, stickers are pretty cheap these days.

Go with an exhaust

I have a 2005 ls coupe the first mod i did was an exhaust im running a custom 2 1/4 inch exhaust from where the factory resenator used to be to a magnaflow muffler best exaust i've seen or heard on a cobalt also it only cost me about $220 for the whole system and gave me about a 20 horse gain cheapest way to get power out of a non ss cobalt

and for all those ss drivers who say to go back and get a ss tell him to go F*** themselves because my ls will now run with ss and i still paid less for my car and the best part is u cant even tell because other then the muffler sticking out the back my car looks completly stock untill u open the hood

that is ridiculous, you need to do some research before posting something like that, im making more power than you right now and i couldnt even come close to keeping up with an SS/SC... , this is unless there is a turbo on your car, which the tc in your name might mean

the LS is a better car for performance in my opinion because of the price differential.

a base cobalt cost 10000 less then a SS, with that u can get rims, kits, turbo, suspension a ton of other stuff.

but to each his own i guess.

Alright everybody, stay on topic.

For $250, you will probably only be able to do one upgrade. If its power you want, then you probably only have 2 options. The first would be a new intake as discussed. It won't give you a great deal more power, but it will help with the hesitation the stock set up has when your go to full throttle at a full stop. The stock air box reverses the air flow twice before entering the manifold, which cause a little lag when you first step on the pedal.

The second would be exhaust. You could either do a header or a cat back, both of which might be a bit more then $250, but close. The header would give you more power by itself then the cat back would.

Don't let someone sell you camshafts. They would be a great power adder, but they can not be used all by themselves. If you put in higher lift cams, you will need to replace your factory valve springs as well. People might argue that point with me, but the factory springs simply don't have enough rate to reliably handle a higher lift. I always build toward the safe side. You are no longer in the $250 range.

Those are the Bates engineering springs. They should work great. I however had trouble with them. I am officially the first customer to have one of those springs fail. It destroyed my engine.

I'm honestly not trying to scare you away from them, Bates is a good product.

You can get yourself a good Intake Injen, AEM, Fujita... any of the such would be good and do a custom exhaust... I got my HKS Hi-Power Muffler for around 175 bucks, and getting custom 2.5" piping done for 100 bucks... so for around 500 bucks you can get some good seat of the pants performance increase, and sound better doing it.... After that you can get into the header, hi flow cat, any number of mods.... But all things considered doing a turbo or supercharger... or NOS will give you great increases but with the loss of the warranty!

An exhaust and the intake might MIGHT get you around 5-10 maybe.... not 20!
Yes it will sound faster, yes it will feel faster... but you are not making 20 hp from a 2.25" exhaust and muffler and intake... not knockin' ya... just tellin' ya the straight facts!
