the end plate on that thing hanging off the block. the silly little man at the dsm tuner shop called it a cam sensor. which is funny cause it ain't and it's pissing me off cause i want to fix it but i have no idea what exactly it is i'm fixing.

and yeah the leak is orginating from this component.

Sounds like this is accurate...I'd imagine the seal is bad, but it's kinda hard to tell from that pic. Probably replace the gasket on the "cam sensor" and it should stop.

If its on the drivers side on a 2.2 I think it has something to do with oil going to the power steering. Had the same thing on mine. It was kinda expensive too for some reason, just short of 500 to fix.

it doesn't feel like a big deal not losing enough oil to flip about and my 06 doesn't have a cam sensor i got it back in september of 05.

that area is the front side of the block on the drivers side where the power steering unit is on the average gm with our setup.

I am not much of a car guy, I kind of thought it had something to do with my 2.4 mani swap, but I'm sure it doesn't

Not 100% sure on the inner workings of the system, but electric power steering. Does this even use oil?

just brake clean it off and call it a day. From the terrible picture, id say its the cam rear seal cover, it it right below the oil fill cap?? Should be 2 bolts and the cover comes off, the new seal looks like a rubber band.

Our cars have electric assist steering. So no powersteering fluid.

Any chance of a better pic, so we can get an idea where on the engine this "thing" is located?

Actually you are wrong, the 05/06 2.2l cobalt and some cavi's did not use a cam sensor, that is the block off plate for the cam sensor that was used in certain year cars. 05/06 cars have what's called compression sense ignition and do not use a cmp sensor.

You can just remove the 2 bolts on the cover, remove it, clean it up, put in a new seal reinstall and your good to go. 30 minute job if your REALLY slow, lol...

thank you and that area is right above the oil filter housing. sorry about the lame pic but i figured even anyone knew what they were looking at they'd more then likely know what's up. if you look in the lower left of the pic you see the 2.4 intake mani, fuel inj and the rail. not hard to figure out were it's at.

yo faulk i'm gonna get right on that. you know the part # on the seal? anyone.
