K & N Filter

I just ordered the K & N drop in filter and filter recharge kit. Can anyone tell me if the filters come ready to drop in or do they have to be oiled for the first time out of the box?

they should be ready to drop in right out of the box... watch for a cel because the filter is sometimes throwing one...

I'd check the filter out of the box to make sure it isn't overly oiled... then just slap it in.... it should be just fine.

that's the key with the K&N and a mass air sensor... don't over oil the thing when you 'recharge' it or the oil gets all over that sensor... that's a big mistake folks are making. My brother was telling that GM is discouraging K&N use in its cars because of it. I never had a problem in any of my Cavaliers...

I used to have a 98 Ford Explorer and alot of the guys over at explorerforums.com had that problem. The oil would dirty up the MAF and throw a code.

You only need enough oil to catch the dirt, it doesn't take much.

I'm getting one as soon as it's available at Canadian Tire :P

My 3.5L Malibu has one already and it really makes a diff, it dynoed at 198 whp. Considering the engine is rated at 220 hp from the factory I'd consider that pretty damn good for a drop in and resonator removal. I give GTP's (stock) a run for their money

yes u may want to dab the filter with a cloth to make sure its not soaked cuz when i put one of these things in my celica it didnt throw a cel but it did screw up my idle since oil from the filter right out of the box got onto my mafs i had to take the mafs out and wipe it with a q tip and brake cleaner then my celica idled fine so just watch out

finally got the drop in filter in... had to wait a week on order... Anyways, the induction is way noisier than with the factory filter. The car feels much better under throttle, had a much better tip in under acceleration... maybe it's all in my head... With my Cavaliers, I don't remember the engine responding that great to the filter other than my mileage going up.

Anyways.
