keeping fans running all the time?

i wanted to know if anyone knew a way to nigrig our car's fans to run at all times, cause lately i've been having problems with my car's coolant getting WAY too hot. and i was talking to someone at a dyno meet today who said you can wire it or do something to make them run continuously to keep the temp down, anyone got any ideas?

You can wire up a switch... or buy a DashHawk

If your car is getting "WAY too hot" you have a problem with the cooling system. I would just get the problem fixed instead of rewiring the fan.

And you do know that 185-225 F is normal operating temp for these cars anyway. If its in that range, its not getting "WAY too hot". You should not start overheating until atleast 235 F.

And by the way, there is a way to make the fan run continously without rewiring the fan. Turn the AC on and the fan will run.

you can wire in a switch to have the fans on and off at your discretion. but theres a chance the ecu may think its a short in the wiring of that harness and disable ALL power to it. i haven't heard of anyone who has wired in a switch though. i know some people have done it with hpt. how, i'm not sure. but it can be done

I had a switch. i even think i have a how to on here somewhere for it.

BUT i had a short in my fuse box and the dealer replace the whole fuse box. i attribute my problem to my fan switch. possibly. idk.

well the switch itself isn't going to cause a short...unless you just **** it up when it goes in. but when you flip the switch to the "on" possition the ecu will recognise that power is now going to the fans and may think its a short in the OEM wiring of them. inwhich case it will stop all power flow to them and you're screwed

uhmm....no. its about 180-200 at the most. 225 is just rediculous. a 180* thermostat is NOT going to let the engine get to 225 with it malfunctioning. 225 is going to destroy your engine(so to speak). thats 45* degrees ABOVE the optimum temperature..not good.

you are right. i thought he was talking about the lsj lol. my bad. but the ecu thinking its a short still holds true. its just kind of a "it will owrk or it won't work" type of deal

Where did the O.P. go?..... What were the actual temps. you were running? My car is mostly stock, and even 100% stock the temp ranges from 190-220 all the time.

Please don't use this word!!!!!!!!
"nigrig"

As for the mod your trying to perform connect a wire directly to the fan then to a switch and ground it to the chassis, I had this same function on another car I had. Great for cooling off engine at the track

alright well. the only reason i'm getting worried was because when i used to drive to school in winter in around 20* temps the coolant temps would be around 220. now. 220* in 20* weather with NO beating on it? sound normal to you guys?

reason i'm asking right now is because summer is coming up and if it hits 220 in the WINTER i can't imagine what it would do in the summer.

i actually remember one night my coolant gauge in the winter read 224* fans NOT on.

and btw it has hit 230 before. in relatively cool weather.

^ do you have any CEL? you should have your car scanned for codes that don't throw a CEL. does it do this while your driving?

I have found that my car typically runns slightly hotter when its cold out. I typically would see between 195 to 205 when its below 50 F. After its gets to around 70 F, I typically see 190 to 200 temps. It might be something with the computer trying to make more heat so that the collant is more available to the heater core inside the car. I have seen as high as 230 but usually turn on the AC when around 215 now.

unless there is a CEL..........the temp isnt too high

there are so many censors in our cars that a code would trip if there was a problem..........especially with the cooling system

Have your thermostat replaced and get the relays checked. My L61 runs at 190, and rarely ever hits 205 on a bad day.

The last time my L61 hit 225 was when my radiator was punctured.
