Exclamation Loss To 06 Eclipse due to Governer & Lowering Springs Question

1. I have a '07 Balt with an Injen Cold Air Intake. I raced a '06 Eclipse on the way home tonight. We raced from a roll going about 65-mph. I was pulling away from the Eclipse until I hit about 110 mph and the governer prevented me from going faster. The Eclipse caught up and passed me. Is there any way I could remove the governer? I can't go on topping out at 110 mph!

2. Is it possible to lower my Balt without throwing the warranty out the window? I've heard of two ways: If I had the dealership install them or if I had a receipt from a shop that installed them. I'm not sure how true this is. Thanks, guys.

Owned by GM again!!! My vote is that you just get bigger tires. That way your speedo will actually be slower than what ou are really going. I think you are FUKed otherwise. Just throw some 33s on it.

I think its because he doesn't have an SS, so he has less sporty tires.

Only 110, that would suck.

Mine is currently set at 165 or 170 I think.

Ah, the beloved warranty question. In my expirence it has more to do w/ the dealership than anything else. Get a cool one and you can do all most anything to the car. Get the wrong one and if they can make your life hell. I have been blessed with a very good one and will be sad to see them go when I move in a couple of weeks.

My Sports package lets me max out around 125-130 mph... I raced a mazda 3 hatchback from a roll at like 70-80 mph and killed it.

I had to upgrade my tires when I bought my 17-inch wheels. I went with the General Ultra High Performance tires. They're excellent tires. I'd like to raise the governer if I could. How'd I do that?

I'll have to get with my dealership and see if I could lower the Balt. Thanks, again.

If you have upgraded your wheels and tires, go to the dealer and have them do a speedometer calibration. They will plug in their computer and tell your car the new wheel size, and it will automatically adjust everything. The stock computer can take direct demension entry for any 15, 16, or 17 inch wheel. You can go bigger, but you then have to lie to computer about the tire size to get the right speedo calibration.

Don't bother the dealer with your suspension questions. There might be a nice guy there that can help, but they are trained to service factory cars with factory parts. Have a shop like Car-X do your lowering springs if you are not doing them yourself. Then have the alignment done. It will not effect any part of your warranty except for the suspension itself. For instance, if you blow out a strut, don't expect them to cover it.

you're car is governed based on your tire size/speed rating. I dont think that you can program a higher cut-off speed at the dealership, however I've never come across this at work so I'd give them a call.

The Eclipse was stock I suppose.

DTR1001, could you possibly help me out since your friend owns a dealership? I could really use it.

they could always use another customer im sure, the owner is a neat guy, my parents and him have know each other for years. The dealership is quite a drive though. It's out in Madisonville(relatively close to College Station), usually an hour and a half drive. i'm sure that he can help you out, i'm thinking of getting my governor reset there as well, haven't talked to him about the specs and information on it yet.

Let me know what exactly you want done and i can run it by him and see what he can do for you.

am I the only one that thinks thats a bad idea? not so much in getting rid of the gov. but going over 110 racing someone? I'm not one of those "don't race" people, I've had my fair share of street races but rarely did I ever take it past 100. getting caught racing is bad enough, but in CO if you get caught over 100 (racing or not) you'll get your car impounded. Its just not worth it to me. the secret to winning any race is to know your car, know where it runs good and where it doesn't. make them race you on your terms, not theirs. if you have to take them from 120 + then you need more low end power.

don't kill yourself and best of luck
