Make that auto shift right
Make that auto shift right
Anyone came across this in their atx cobalt. I know I know, MTXs are all the rage these days, but unless it's got more than 10gears, i want an auto. 12h,12l. heh.
I put a cone filter on the end of my stock air intake (short ram) and drove without the MAF in for a while, then i eventually got a 6" long 3"diameter piece of exhaust pipe and flatted part of it cut a hole and put the MAF in and plugged it back in. Well. what i've noticed is
with the MAF in and working it shifts slow and sloppy. Like a completely stock car should. Unplug that MAF, (you get a CEL but put black tape over it heh) and the thing jerks when you put it in drive, but it'll also chirp the tires inbetween 1st and 2nd. and if the pavement is smooth and a bit wet, in between 2nd and 3rd too. It really changes the shift, almost like it's got a nice shiftkit. Anyone with an auto should try it. You can fool the ecm but unplugging the MAF with the battery disconnected, then wait 5-10mins and reconnect the battery but with the MAF still unplugged and it should clear the CEL light , just leave the MAF unplugged and you get the good results without that little yellow engine on the dash.
Just a tip.
I've raced a few cars in my 2.2L ATX cobalt LS. A ford focus zx3, 5spd, ZETEC DOHC, CF Hood, full exhaust (header, highflow CAI, fartcan) true CAI intake, gutted from the back of the front seats, and i whipped his ass, lol..a few times, then we both pulled up onto a 03 mustang MACH 1, and well the stang proceed to walk away from us laughing, but hey, 2nd out of 3 ain't bad haha. I can't wait to catch the kid when i'm driving my 70 nova.

wouldn't do it
the MAF is too important to just leave hanging in your engine bay
how is your engine supposed to measure the amount of incoming air and deliver the right amount of fuel if your MAF is unplugged?

Agreed, don't do that. HP Tuners supports our TCM, so you can use that to really tune the trans the right way. They don't support the ECM yet however, so I'm waiting for the full suite support.
