mk1 short shifter?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

anybody have any idea if these would work with our cobalts? its for a saturn ion but arent they the same as our cars?

silverSS 07-11-2005 03:21 AM

"very rare" hmmm..

i would wait for a reputable name like B&M to make one, or even go with the new TWM one, but your asking if it works, hmm imo----i wouldnt buy it b/c its not for a cobalt, but my patients for aftermarget are getting thinner, just like everyone elses lol

btw i wanted to reply and say your new sig looks cool nice photoshop
i like the blacked-out headlight look, i bet your car will look good in the future.

I know for a fact it works in the ION's. Someone decided to try it out and actually wrote up installation instructions for it so the guy could ship them with the shifter.

wikkymaster 07-11-2005 02:23 PM

thx about the sig, hopefully it will look somewhat like that within the next like 2 months, but anyways yea the seller offered to sell me the shifter for a good deal to see if it would fit my car if not i just send it back for a refund, and if i wrote an install guide for it they would knock off another 60, but i would install it myself so that wont happen, but it was stilla good deal for the shifter i thought theions were almost the exact same car.

wikkymaster 07-11-2005 02:24 PM

and i already have the wheels by the way!

tiny 07-11-2005 06:29 PM

itll work, and its cheaper

nice wheels, fake tint

wikkymaster 07-11-2005 07:43 PM

the whole car is photoshopped, i have the wheels on but thats it so far, it should look close to that in about 2 months tops, and are you sure it will work?

A little searching would yield some impressive results...

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/drivetrain-79/mk1-short-shifter-ions-inside-1446/

...and yes that was me that installed it. This shifter will work fine with the cobalt. Mine came with the reverse lockout which is clearly not needed for ION's. It is needed, however on the old j-bodies and new cobalts. It's the same tranny and shifter assembly in the J's, IONs, and cobalts, but only difference is that the cobalt's and J's have that dumb reverse lockout and the IONs don't.

Oh, and that guy is trustworthy in the fact that when he asked me to write up the install instructions, he did refund me 60 U.S. upon his email receipt of the instructions.

wikkymaster 07-11-2005 08:09 PM

i dont think i have teh reverse lockout?

wikkymaster 07-11-2005 08:16 PM

when ur on the highway, see if you can push the shifter into reverse, but keep the clutch in for God sakes, same reason there is gear lockout, so you cant do 110 in 2nd gear

wikkymaster 07-12-2005 12:47 PM

lol no i would be too scared, what does it matter if there is or isnt, does it mean i cant get the shifter?

IonNinja 07-29-2005 05:21 PM

has anyone had any issues with these ebay shifters breaking?

moxjake 08-01-2005 05:35 PM

1sb cobalt ls's don't have the reverse lockout on them... just throwing that out there. I don't know if that means you can put one without a lockout on a base or not. The lockout is also kinda silly, you can't possibly put a manual tranny car into reverse while you're moving forward at any significant speed anyways.

wikkymaster 08-01-2005 07:16 PM

i know in my base once i start going i cannot put it into reverse

richsoucie 08-02-2005 07:40 PM

i cant put my ion in reverse once i am moving.
