Noob looking for advice

Auto, 07 2.2L LT. I've been going through these forums gathering information on options for getting more out of my new cobalt. I pretty much have my sights on the Garrett kits... http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...oletCobalt.htm

I'm just looking to get around the 200hp zone, which I'm thinking this kit will provide. I'm just really confused as to how much preparation the engine will need if any at all before installing one of these kits. What does piggyback refer to?? Will my factory GM warranty be affected with such a kit installed?

Again.... I'm not looking to compete on the street. I just want to have something that is really fun to drive.

Kiss your warranty good bye if they see any type of Forced Induction on your car...

A piggyback is a separate computer used to tune your car. Don't plan on using your warranty unless it's for a trim piece falling off.

At this point in time it is believed to be impossible to tune an automatic for any kind of F/I, except for nitrous. The garret kit is meant for manuals and the car will be undrivable if you use that canned tune. Your only bet is to wait until clear image auto releases the Trifecta tune for autos and they can tune the tranny. Even with that most people would advice against canned tunes for F/I

buy the turbo kit from garrett. Use LS2edit for tuning your engine and trans.

For CAI tuning it is required to have a dyno available so you won't be getting some 'crap tune.'

a dyno is nice for tuning, but far from "required" equipment.

Your Warrenty will no longer be of any use, I would not recomend turbo'ing a newish car, unless you have something else you can drive if your tranny blows up.
The turbo kit will be a huge upgrade, and youll be able to beat stock SS/SC's.

well if your going to spend 4000 $ for your car to get up to 200hp (especially considering its cheaper to buy a SS/TC which is what...260hp?) then I think finding a dyno is the least of your problems.

I think it would be better to get your engine rebuilt first before going turbo. That's what I'm researching right now.

ok, Vince is very good with tuning and he is working on getting the F/I tunes. Its not impossible, it will just take a little time. Vince CAN tune the auto tranny, he did it to my car....Tunes for the 2.2s JUST came out so you cant expect every type of tune to be available right now. Im sure it will be available later in the year, Vince has alot of support and he has beta testers to work with so im sure it will get done.

did you miss my 6 page thread about LS2edit? He says his car is an '07, he doesn't have to wait for anything, laptop-based tuning is available right now for engine AND trans.

oh jesus, im sorry. I dont pay attention to 07 stuff since i am an 06. My bad bro.

But on a side note hes probably going either need to learn to tune or find someone to do it for him

another thing: how has the tune worked out for you?

well, since i don't have access to a dyno or a wideband setup at present (limited by funds), i have to do it the slow way. i'm currently working on dialing in my maf calibration by monitoring fuel trims.

all i said was i had to get used to it...sheeesh. i have to get used to the way the car shifts and i have to keep track of my speed alot more now. it actually gets up and goes. i didnt say it was "hard" to get used to so stop putting words in my mouth.
