Pacesetter header in! review w/ lots of videos

ok, i finally got around putting on the header. taking it off of the block was surprisingly easy, i could get all of the bolts from the top of the engine. the hard part was getting those damn downpipe bolts. they were so tight, that halfway through taking them off, 2 of them just snapped in half but enough to where i could still pull it apart. i started around 10:30 and ended around 3 o-clock(by myself).

downsides: well, my car makes this weird sound, kinda like an exhaust leak, ticking sound like if you put card in bike spokes, but it only happens when i hit the gas. has to be 1 of three things(if anyone has more ideas, chime in PLEASE)
a. leak from where the header connects to downpipe, had to have part of it welded the rest bolts on with some spring type dealys
b. leak from when i only put the copper sealer thingy on only one side of the gasket, the side wher gasket-block and none on header-gasket(i dont know if that would matter, there was none on the stock exhaust)
c. drove car 1 mile with neither o2 sensors hooked up, havent reset battery yet, so wondering if its just engine compensating for not detecting anything? make sense? resetting battery overnight, so will find out in the morning.

also makes my car quieter? surprised the hell out of me. i was expecting it to be loud, especially looking at the first video hahahah(look below) it seriously made my exhaust quieter, yet still meaner. which i like, i dont wanna be too loud. i wanna have the most unique sounding cobalt..

upside: makes it sound freaking sweet(other than that annoying ticking sound)
DEFINATELY faster. you can feel that mofucka. especially in those higher rpms. but my clutch ******* hates that header lol. it kinda slips now. or maybe thats just cuz of me gunning it all the time now:P

haha video time:
to the guy wanting to know what his car would sound liek header no exhaust, this video is just for you buddy. INSANE. look at my face when i first start it up. so much louder in person, that was me hitting 2k rpms by the way. i drove so slow because it was LOUD.

idle/rev/launch
Before

after

flyby
before(intake/exhaust)

after - for some reason, my engine sounds so mean coming towards you, theres so much more of a difference than the last video, at least to me

0-60
before - sorry you cant hear the exhaust, i was jamming to flock of seagulls... and just so you know! my speedometer is off a little, i hit 60 when it hits about 55, but you can tell the after vid is faster

after

so what do you think? i like to hear opinions. also it would be helpful if anyone can answer that question about what is causing that ticking sound.

well, i still havent changed the downpipe yet, so either a downpipe, or some type of motor mount/stiffy bar

theres an option for it in HP Tuners but its not enabled in the 2.0's

only the 2.2 & 2.4's

thats exactly how my car sounded with only the Pacesetter only 100x louder in person

also I haven't been able to fix the exhaust leak sound either

its either leaking from the ball joint (where the springs are in between the washers) or its from the thin material.

kinda shitty but nothing I've been able to do about it yet...

you can definately feel it, you can also feel the slight loss at low rpms, i love gunning it from second gear at around 4k rpms, thats when you can feel it the most. my car loves second gear. and like i said, it didnt make it anylouder, if any it made it quieter, but it just sounds real aggressive now. i thought it was gonna make it kinda sound loud or like a civic, i was really surprised. the guys charged me 60 bucks to weld the extension thing onto the stock downpipe, and they bolted the flanges together for me with the springs and everything. i didnt get a flex pipe, they said thats what the ball joint thingy with springs that comes with the header is for, but i'll probably end up getting one anyways and getting it just all welded together, i'm wondering if thats where the leak is coming from.

oh btw, tell me if this makes sense as to what could be making that ticking weird sound upon acceleration and not idle. i'm wondering if when they cut the top part(above the cat) on the downpipe, some metal shavings/something fell in there either into the cat or against the honey comb, and when i accelerate that **** moves around? could that be it?

what you're hearing is the exhaust gases flowing through the header. so naturally you'll hear it upon acceleration and as you speed up and the gases move quicker throughout the header the sound is not as noticeable as in the lower RPMs.

theres no metal shavings in there, unless there was an extreme coincidence and the exact same thing happened to me but probably not. thats how mine sounds as well...

the ball joint does take place of the flex pipe, and it is prone to leak but from what I hear if it was leaking you would see dark spots on it from the exhaust. I don't see any but you never know, you could try adjusting the downpipe. if it is leaking thats most likely where it would come from...

is it just the way the pacesetter is designed? cuz i never hear it on other headers. its so annoying i have to have music up to not hear it. people are always like is there something wrong with your car?
