performance advice 06' LT auto

Ok, i have a 2006 LT 2.2 with an automatic trans... dumb... but oh well what ya gonna do. anyway. finally got some money where i can start spending a few grand on my car. i know about all the interior and exterior i can do as far as looks go but not to sure about stuff under the hood. seems like alot of mixed ideas. but with what i got i would like to upgrade. heres what i want though. i want more pickup and torque than top speed. i like putting people in their seats. i want something that sounds good and deep and loud. ive only heard manuals so wasnt sure if its different for a auto. i dont want to really do a custom install. bolt ons would make my life alot easier. also i want it lower. but any ideas would be great!

Keep your money. Modding a 2.2 is a waste of time. I'd just settle for a nice set of wheels/tire combo. It's your car and you can do what you want but i'd spend money in other areas that makes the car better. Without a successful way of tuning this car you will be LUCKY if you can net a combined 10whp with an intake/exhaust setup.

If you want to put people back in their seats, you need boost.

One good way of going about that is to piece together a supercharger kit because there are always lots of parts for sale on here. And in the meantime you can install a full exhaust which will give the car a little more pep and will be compatable with the supercharger.

its not that. its just like me they may have done something like that in the past and its not worth all the money in the end.
i like the post about the wheel/tire combo, just do that and a gmpp exhaust and you good to go.
not to be a ass but you not going to put ppl back into there seats in a 2.2 auto with basic bolt-ons.
if you really have the money you say you have then do a motor/trans swap but thats alot of money as well save your money or buy a toy car and work on that. you can buy a jetta 1.8t,240,srt,miata,g20. i can go all day but you get the point.......i hope.

Alot of people think a 2.2 is a HUGE waste of time. If you have money to spend get a turbo setup to start and then work on the internals or if you have enough money do it all at once!!

um. i've owned both an SS/SC and a LT 2.2 Sedan. An 06 2.2 Auto has 0 options for making it fast besides a bottle of nitrous. Other peeps have placed forced induction on therir cars but it didn't stay on long before they ran into issues. I have yet to personally see a forced induction setup last on a 2.2 Cobalt for more than 2-4 months before the owner took it off because of issues.

Go ahead it's your money I'd personally save it myself and enjoy the ride the way it was designed to be. Save gas, get to point a to point b and be reliable in the form it should be.

I bought a truck. Yeah it has a V8 in it but I am not going to throw a supercharger or turbo on it. Waste of time. Using it for what it was intended, to get thru incliment weather, carry my heavy ass **** I load up in it and get me where it needs to.

Your going to need more than a few thousand to make your ride fast.

05 - 06 2.2's have zero reliable tuning options even if he bought all the required parts. If anyone says use a piggy back I've got sand in the desert to sell you.

It is easier said than done for sure!! The absolute easiest route would be go buy a ss/tc if you still want a cobalt and start from there. If you start there at least your already in the mid 200's for hp/tq, but just a thought.

you are joking right? Ive had mine on for more than a year, there are about a half dozen of us have had boost for a year or more with no issues at all. if you dont know what you are talking about you really shouldnt talk.

Also there are tuning solutions that are proven and work excellent.

Modding a car thats faster then a cobalt from the factory does not mean it will magically be a problem free expeience. If you take on serious mods on any car and don't know what your are doing and/or are underprepaired you will have issues. There are many people running fi 2.2ls that are completely fine... Look through the 2.2l engine discussion threads. Trifecta is a good tuning option for 2.2l's.

here's the deal... i had a 2.2 for about 2 years, put some money into it, and after lots of research I realized it wasn't the best platform, unless you're REALLY looking to spend big bucks.... I ended up trading for a ss/sc, basic turbo and bolt ons and you'll still be running 14's, which while that's a big improvement, I don't think anybody considers 14's to be fast. I wouldn't call it "slow" per se, it will put you at faster than majority of the normal cars on the road, but it's alot of work and money for not that much speed. also remember that the auto is going to be significantly slower than the manual until you get to insane power levels.

What kind of budget are you looking at? If you have 10-15k to dump, you can make one hell of a car. But if you're looking to spend 3-5k, may not really be worth it, depending on exactly what you're looking for. If you're realistic about your build, and not looking for crazy power, go for it. But don't expect 12's from putting on a turbo.

that is all true but if i had 10-15k i would just trade my car in and get a evo8, or srt-4. there kinda cheap now and with basic bolt-on and a tune a evo can achieve 450whp stock turbo and a srt 300+whp.
i hope we all dont come off ******** but when i got my first car i wasn't into the street scene until my friend took me to a meet i was converted instantly but guess what? i had the wrong car (2001 nissan altima) i still said i dont give a damn and modded anyway. it had 75 wet shot,bc cams, full exhaust,intake,lowered,with17" enkeis. i proved quite a few ppl wrong and after it got wrecked i got the cobalt, and to tell you the truth it was as fast as the cobalt (stock) but now with all my mods i look back and im like "damn i wasted so much money" and i put in a lot of working hrs for that car. point is start with a good and easy platform unless you got mucho dollas.
