Ported and Polished Head worth it?!

Ok guys,

Does anyone know if getting my Head Ported and Polished would net any significant gains? I know just itself alone is not enough to net much if anything at all. But in combination with my current mods (Intake, Full SS Exhaust from Manifold Back) do you think it might have any effect on performance?

Thanks!

Well currently I'm making around 128 whp up from stock 117 with my breather mods alone. I'm thinking that a ported head would net the same if on it's own so maybe I can grab an extra 5 - 10 more hp outta a good porting job.

The money is not a problem, the only thing I'm worried about is throwing codes. I don't like codes....

If the money isn't a problem, why don't you use the cash you got laying around and upgrade to a car that's worth modding? (the ss/sc of course)

I wish I had even my 1 head in the garage. These heads aren't cheap but put a request out to an autowrecker. I am sure there are some wrecked cars waitng to be parted out. Then again they may try to sell the whole engine intact, which may not be a bad thing either.

Get a hold of JBP when Mev gets back from his honeymoon, Sept. 22nd. He will give you numbers for any gains. If you are going to do that you may want to think about doing the cams as well. I would.

don't get me wrong, to each his own, and I understand that some people cannot afford a car that costs 22k US. But spending all that money to get speed out of a car that is not built for that purpose whatsoever just seems like a waste of money to me, especially when it seems like he could afford another 100 bucks a month on a car payment.

I have a Patriot Performance Stage 2 head on my car and LOVE IT. The car feels so much freer and it definately revs a lot better even without the turbo pumping.

Let me know if you want one. I got a good connection with them and have sold 4-5 to Cavalier guys. Looking for a Cobalt owner to buy one and give some reviews on it.

while you may have a valid point from your viewpoint, your comment was still pretty ignorant.

Red it's definitely worth it, do it up.

i'd say that polishing would help.. porting, not so much. these heads flow a lot factory stock (we are long past the V8 days) and i think that a port job would just make idle rough. a nice polish just cleans it up a bit.

we only opened up my exhaust sides, and took out the extra slag on the intake side. I am very impressed on how well these heads flow stock, but there's always room for improvement, within reason.
