Is it possible?

Is it possible to take a built lsj head and put it on the l61 block?
Or is it just cheaper/smarter to build the l61 head

Well, it'll work. You dont have to worry about losing power steering either. If you are getting the head ported the LSJ can go bigger in the exhaust than the L61 but they're the same on the intake side porting wise.

It is definitly possible, you will need to do a few things first tho.

Either run a LSJ exhaust cam, or get the oil port in the last exhaust cam journal pluged.

You will also need some sort of block off plate for the exhaust cam end plate where the LSJ has its cam position sensor bolted.

The PCV port in the head is in a different location than the 2.2, so you will either have to drill/tap and block it off, or drill tap and put a fitting on it to provide crank evac. This will depend of what method of crank evac you choose tho.

You will also have to modify the coil pack to fit inside the LSJ valve cover and modify the valve cover coil pack plate to clear the 2.2's ICM.

If you have any questions PM me, it isn't really that bad.

Nope, just a drill and tap, something to cut some of the plastic away from the coil pack and some aluminum to make a block off plate.

Took me only a few hours to acomplish all of this.

oh no i know i cant im just wondering if i could pull a lsj head off a wrecked ss and throw it on the l61 block so i dont have to build the l61 head with new rods, pistons, valve springs( etc.)

i would spend money elsewhere if i were you

if i had to do it all over again the head would be the last thing i would build...i bet you could meet your power goals on a bone stock head (with maybe the exception of valve springs)
