Power fading?
Power fading?
Hey everyone ibhad a quick question to see if anyone might have different ideas to what come to me. The story is I raced my friend who has a madza 3 2.3 and about 2 months ago I kicked his ass bad. Since then he's just added an exhaust system and we raced last night and now he's on my ass! How the heck does this workout?! Is there something I need to change? My car still feels to pull strong but he is on my ass. I've always wondered if a clutch or pressure plate has anything to do with the speed acceleration. It seems like the clutch does slip every now and then and I'm wondering if I get a new clutch and pressure plate if I'll get the power I should have... Any other suggestions? Thanks guys

An exhaust might not add that much power (car depending) but it dose add extra power none the less so that power it did add might just be enought to keep up with you.. You didnt lose power your car has the same power as last race. He just steped up his game to catch you. Now you need to step your game up and get somthing new to add power like everyone said i.e Intake, exhaust, meth, Tune, Headers, or a combo of all. Do it.. and have him catching up to you..lol
See and that the thing I have a 2.4 mani, cat-back exhaust, injen cai, pulstar plugs. All he has is the exhaust which is a cat back. I'm just wondering if it seems like there is something that needs to be redone like a fuel filter or a pressure plate. Just curious.
I'm just confused to the fact that the cat-back added so much..

Op ar you tuned? If not you need to be to take full advantage of the 2.4 mani. And like others have said he added power. More than likely the real difference is his driving ability. That can change A LOT!

Well I guess that's true.. Like stated above I have the 2.4 mani, pulstar plugs, injen intake, Megan exhaust. Would the trifecta tune really help that much? That's the tune I'm looking into. But I don't want to tune until after headers and a 2.4 tb
Delco iridium? Bug I read research that pulstart are a little better by.2 hp on dyno
And my bad do you mean denso?

You also gotta remember man those 2.3 mazda '3s have a shade over 160hp so stock for stock there faster than your car. And yes while the exhaust doesnt add too much its still going to bump him up to about 170 crank hp atleast.

AC Delco, oem spark plugs.
more hp does not automatically mean faster when comparing 2 different cars. The mazda is heavier.
i didnt have the same problem although i did race an audi last night from a dig (i have an auto) and when i went to punch it my car just lagged like hardcore..
like he said would that be an issue with say my fuel filter or something else? it's never done that before. there was at least a few seconds between putting the hammer down and the car even accelerating at a decent pace.
anyone know?

If you had it in "d" gear then that well explain it . Put it in l gear then I gear then finally "d". Personally I put mine in "I" gear if i wanna do some street racing. Just try it and see how it feels.

I have a similar issue but it is mainly when I am around here my car is slow but when I got o the mountains it isnt as slow... My answer for my issue is humidity.
I have no issues at all beating a Mazda 3.
I believe, your friend has become a more aggressive driver, Perhaps letting the RPM travel higher before shifting.
The 2.3 is a Variable Valve Engine. Also, if he ran 89 instead of 87 the Octane sensor would release an additional 2 Degrees of Timing Advance.

thanKs for all the help guys! I guess I just need to keep performing my car and kick his ass more haha thanks guys and for the guy with the lag problem I'd say either humidity or fuel filter. I need to change my fuel filter, it been over 33000 miles think I need one haha
