Quick Questions about N/A

Has anyone tryed building an N/A motor yet? I know most people do bolt ons but i was wondering a couple more things
1) Has anyone used higher compression pistons? If so notice any difference?
2) For those that have used the patriot head, have you gotten a tune to take advantage of that? If so was it worth the money
3) Anyone tryed building for higher Rpms and getting tuned for it yet?

These are just some questions i have had for a while. I love my balt, its a blast on the highway compared to what it was stock, but it still needs more power (sorry turbo is not the answer for me).

No replies? I guess that shouldn't surprise me any. All it ever seems to be in this section is
1) Which exhaust?
2) Which intake?
3) what should i get with $xxxx?
4) How do you remove the speed governor?
5) Turbo?
I think there should be 3 threads made sticky, 1 that explains about intakes, another that explains about exhaust, and another that explains about the speed governor and anyone that makes a thread in here relating to those should be temp banned for first offence and perma banned for the 2nd

Well, let me say this, it can be done. I dont think anyone has tried it. Its been tempting to me now that we have tuning software.

I have heard good things about the patriot head but that was on the j-bodys im not sure how that would hold over to the delta platform. I odnt know if hes still on here but get in contact with Daflyinsquirl he was an all motor 2.2 cavy running 14s

PM IonNinja about the Patriot head. He's the only one that I know of that has it. And why isn't turbo an option? For 4K into a turbo setup, you will make more power than a 6K n/a build.

The problem with the 2.2 is that the longevity of the motor goes way down with a turbo setup.

A N/a build could be made almost bulletproof if it were not tuned too aggressively

Why would the longevity go down? As long as the tune is good and the internals can take the power, it should be just fine.

yeah with the proper internals and setup with a good tune, theres no reason why it should no hold for a very long time.

for me money on the spot is an issue. 1k here...another 500 here another 1500 here and i'm good. Coughing up 4k all at once tho? **** that i could pay off my balt. Then the next time...that would go a long ways into restoring my mustang, then the next time....hmmm i could use a truck right about now. See where i am going with this?

lawl, mustang already should run high 13s low 14s. Its going to take an assload of time and money to get MY 2.2 to beat my mustang. Thats not even counting after i put heads, cam and intake mani on it. I should be in the 12s on street tires after that (in the stang)..... As for the truck, it would be nice for taking my cars to the track, that way if i break i don't have to figure out how the hell i am going to get home. There are no tracks close by......

Pay off the 'balt then.

But seriously I know what you are talking about with dropping such a big amount of $$ all at once. And I overlooked the mustang in your sig. Thats a good reason not to spend everything on the 'balt.

This is something I want more info on myself. I haven't even begun performance on the Cobalt yet and probably won't for another year, but I want to do N/A.

I have a question myself if it's OK to ask...Is there anything I can do for cams in my 07 2.2? I mean with tuning and all now, is there anyway around the cam position sensor?

I am going to install my springs this summer and finish suspension/handling over the winter. Next year I would like to start with bolt-ons and a year or two after that when the car is paid off, I will go more in depth with it (married life with children doesn't always allow for much when you've got 2 car payments, mortgage, and more important things than your car). Anyway, I am just trying to figure out what the best possible combination is for performance with my car. Otherwise, if it's not worth it, I'll just do suspension and make it look nice and buy a sports car in the future.

I don't mind. As long as this thread is used for dicussing N/A related topics for our 2.2s i don't mind someone asks something in my thread. As far as i know there is nothing we can do for the 2007 2.2s as far as cams go. Even with tuning we 07s can't (again as far as i know, i asked halfcent and someone else knowledgeable about our 2.2s that question at one point).

yeah I have the patriot head, no tune though

by itself with stock cams I really haven't noticed much improvement if any at all to be honest. it really just shifted my powerband upwards slightly.

once there is a way to tune the Ions I'll hopefully be running stage 2 cams

if I had to do it again though I'd probably put the $1300 somewhere else or into the bottom end

I was hoping you'd chime in. Still no tune though? I could have sworn in a previous thread you were going to go with a piggyback. I am curious to see just how high your powerband was shifted and now where it would drop off, (providing you have the internals and such you need for higher rpms) and what your peak gain would be.

I was looking into it but you can't raise the rev limiter with a piggyback...I'm waiting to see what Trifecta Tuning can do for me.

As far as power goes, according to the butt dyno I don't start pulling until around 4K and it doesn't drop off before redline like stock.
