r.pm. tach question on 08 cobalt
hello everyone,
i just bought a 2008 cobalt n i love the car.i have had it for about 15 days.this last sat. i took it to the track in dallas, texas. i had a problem looking at the tach when i was going down the track cause its too far down. so this weekend im going to be installing an r.p.m tach. i was reading on the "how to"section and they only have wirte up how to's on tach lites and there installs where on 2.0 superchargers so is it the same for process for my 2.2lt, can i run 2 tachs or do i have to cancel the original?any info will help.can anyone tell me a short write up on how to do this? thank you

You will be hard pressed to find an appropriate 'Tach Signal' wire on the Cobalt, for it communicates with its instruments via CAN network protocol, which is all digital.
There is a fix, however...it's called the Tach Adaptor from AutoMeter, and it will develop a discrete four-cylinder tachometer signal for you to use with tachs, shift lites, you name it. It wires in to the power supply wire for the four coils, and 'counts' the pulses, converting them into a tach signal. Very effective!

well i just wanted a tach instead of the light because that way i can look back n see what my shift points were when i go to the track and i have never been a fan of just the light.so if i get the shift lite how do i install it on to my 2.2lt?is it the same as the ss or is there a diffrence?

I have a 2" Tach
Using the MSD Tach Driver because my tach does not go into 2 cylinder mode. It can be done but your rpm's will be off by about 100

ok so i got the tach adaptor from autometer.so on my o8 cobalt(2.2lt) what color wire do i look for on the coils so i can get my signal? do i cut that wire and then connect it to the tach adaptor?
Mount Plesant huh? ....ive been there a few times!! i honestly have to say that i dont use the tach much when i race...i can feel / hear it...and i have my interceptor with a shift light setting
...but, when you do get this working...post up some pics so we can see what it looks like, i cant say ive ever seen this kind of think in a cobalt before

i kinda like to keep my eye on the track.lol (n not looking down.) i decided to get the tach light only but still not sure on how to connect the adaptor. i lost aginst a (nitrous spraying) toyota celica gt at the track cause i kept hitting my rev limiter.
i need to know what wire i connect the tach adaptor to. does anyone know?

so basically your saying that your to new of a driver to be able to look down for a split second without running the car off the road...if so..then u should not be racing...or..put ur seat farther back hahahaha
lol....or you could just....u know....practice....and give it some time to become second nature to shift at high rpm's
i put 1000 miles on it in 5 days, and all i need to know is how to install that tach adaptor. i just need to know what wire to look for so i can connect it the adaptor. THATS THE ONLY REPLY I NEED.this car is new to me i went from driving a nissan sentra ser spec-v to a chevy cobalt.so i dont know much about this car. n when i research on here all i here about are intake and exhoust questions.so can anyone out there just answer this simple little Question? thanks

with your ignition setup it shouldn't be any different than an SS/SC
also, you really don't need a tach adapter if your tach has a 2 cyl mode but in any case your tach signal is going to come from one of those wires.
