ram-air or CAI?
Weapon R sells their intakes now with the option to add a ram-air to it.
It connects to the filter and is supposed to cup the oncoming air.
Not sure of it's effectiveness, but it is worth checking into.

im aware of the difference between a short ram intake and ram-air, i have a cold air intake but we get bad flooding here during monsoon season so i have to convert it to short-ram, and during that time i'd like to still get cold air, so i thought of maybe just keeping it short-ram and making an airbox out of sheet aluminum with a hole in the top and a scoop on the hood..so if a scoop is a bad idea and a ram-air hood would be better, i'd like to know why.
here's a how-to on what im considering doing, minus the decals..

they both perform really well. its just a preference
now that i saw your thread, i like your idea. i would have a hard time drilling holes in the hood. thats why i would prefer the ram air hood.

rk makes a hood with a functional scoop that drops the air flow right on top of the sri. i run an injen intake cai setup in heavy rain with no issues.

CAI as I understand it provides more power
, but as stated above, depends on what you're looking for...if you want to keep the CAI while driving in a flood zone, I recommend that you get the hydro shield...will keep you from getting the engine water logged....happens all too often....
if ur looking for more power go wit the cai if you just lookin to upgrade ur intake system go wit the short ram intake. jdm sells an intake for 50 bucks n it is a cai or can be converted to sri. n it depends on where u live. if it does rain alot get the hydroshield wit the cai like everyone is saying.
a lot of rain isn't going to hydro-lock the engine. submerging the filter will. i've driven through huge puddles in heavy rains and have had no problems with my injen cai setup. where do you gys get this information from?
i was in the car when a friend of mine in an integra drove thru a puddle that was about halfway up his wheel and it locked his engine. he had an aem cai w/ the bypass but the bypass failed. thats why im paranoid around here during monsoons. we get FEET of rain, not inches.

yea i have a cai too but every time it rains my engine dont even lock up from the water. n my filter is like right where my fog light is. i drive fast in the rain too but nothing really gets sucked up in my cai. so it just depends on wat u prefer.
water
yeah..just driving in the rain shouldn't hurt the motor, just watch out for standing water..if you are constantly paranoid about it
, go with the sri...I have a friend of mine that drove his neon through high water and he threw a rod and now has to replace the whole motor....gotta suck
you see high water and you find an alternative route. or keep a 10mm socket wrench and screwdiver for the cai to sri conversion, takes about 10 minutes. would suck to do it in the rain but that's what gas stations with overhangs are for.
