Remote start/Keyless entry
alright i am thinking of getting a remote start for my car. can you get a remote start installed on a manual transmission considering you have to push the clutch in?? and keyless entry can you get that insalled on vehicle with manual locks?? and by manual locks i mean ones that you have to pull up and push down by hand. and by keyless entry i mean push a button to unlock and push it twice to lock it.
i hope this is the right thread because i have a 2.2 l61 and maybe you guys have had the or have the same situation

You can get a remote start, Even aftermarket alarm. You cannot however, have keyless entry :-)
Vehicles that are manual require to be left in neutral, parking brake on. Pretty simple if you don't mind leaving it in neutral, otherwise your car would drive away.

You've got manual locks/windows correct? What is going to "automatically" bring your locks up and down if you don't have power to them? You could go aftermarket i am sure, but you will spend a bit of money.

Yes, all you need is the actuators connected to the lock rods. I have installed an alarm w/keyless entry and remote start on my old '06 LS. The actuators aren't expensive and are pretty easy to install on a balt, plenty of room behind the door panels. As far as remote start, you will need to bypass the clutch switch. You will also need a module to "fool" the passlock security. I used a DEI 556L on mine, not sure if you would take the same one. A local shop should be able to point you in the right direction for that. If you do install remote start, just make sure that you leave it in neutral with the e-brake set, otherwise you'll have a James Bond car when you hit the start button. I do have a wiring diagram for an '06 LS if it would be helpful to you. PM if you want it. Hope this is helpful.

A lot of shops around here won't install remote start on a manual. Liability issue I guess. I'm sure some shops will tell you that, but you ought to be able to find someone that'll do it.

You can put power locks on any car, im sure you can get the chevy ones but i have had good luck with believe it or not ebay kits! i have put keyless entry and an alarm on a 77 celica and 72 gto so a cobalt would be no worries, i have not opened up the door on a cobalt but the kits i got were a piggy back actuator that is attached to existing rods. the wiring is all done for you and you just have to plug it in and hide it.

Well if you left the car in gear, remote started it, and ran over someone or into something expensive, the installer could possibly be sued. I'm just speculating on this, since I don't know the legalities, but the manual that came with mine specifically stated that it was for automatic transmissions only.

well the only problem you'd have is like everyone else has stated the remote start. when i bought my car from a used car dealer they actually asked if i wanted power locks. said it'd run me about 450 for all four (sedan). so i'm sure you can do it. but think of it this way. with no power locks your car'll be lighter. :]

ive got manual locks on mine too and its becoming a pain in the ass.
i wanna switch to automatic but the quotes are ridiculous
best buy wanting MINIMUM $100-$120 a door and i have a sedan..
id also like power windows, but everything has its price i guess..and i dont like the price..lol

I think the price is ridiculous too..im tempted to get one of those ebay kits and just do it myself..it just seems like such a $#^$ to do
ive got an automatic so remotre start wouldnt be that bad...but i dont really need it..doesnt get super cold where i am..haha

You have to understand that your car thinks it's being stolen since it's being started with no key and it will everything it can to stop that from happening. These cars don't use a traditional start signal from the ignition switch like the good ol days, it send a signal to the BCM, then the BCM starts the car. You wil need an additional module to make it work, and 8 out of 10 ebay remote starts are junk, you get what you pay for...
Sorry for the rant, but go ahead give it a try, you might get it done, but i promise it will suck, and by the time it's done, you will wish you would have paid someone a fair price to do it for you...
