unless you plan on upgrading your tires, don't go faster than what the governor allows.. it is set at a certain speed based on what your tires can handle.. if you go faster than that, expect a blowout at 110mph...

if all else fails go to a junk yard and find a cobalt that has the sport package w/ 16inch wheels and yank the computer out and put it in your car. that will def do the trick. we did it on my friends 4 door car.

the buisness with the tech 2 wont work. It doesnt have that ability. the only options you can change are what are called "personality" options, things like how the doors unlock when you hit unlock and things of the sort. and those are only in the BCM.

you wont be able to change anything in the pcm.

I could possibly just have them flash it w/ the 2.2L sport version....same engine specs just better tires which i have now, it apparenlty has no govenor so it should work in theory

what about your mileage display? if you take a computer from another model Cobalt will it display the milage from that car instead of the correct mileage on your car?

yeah ntm it will have the wrong vin number and when the ecu checks it against other parts of the car it could cause problems like your radio wont work your radio will only work with the correct vin number

ok the sports are the 1's with the 140 speedo and 124 limiters

the lower have the 120 speedo , and last i heard were at 108

the nice thing about the switch you wanna put in , will disable the speedo , and also set a code for a VSS issue , and dont you know it the dealer might just see it

take a look at this tread , and click the link , it was what happens when you have no intelegence

http://www.azclubgp.com/viewtopic.php?t=4298

why not set your car up for those speeds , and do the speed limiter the right way ?? or do you care about your life that little ???

Talking It WORKS!

Sweet! it's all good folks.....comp tune was no prob and limiter is gone! i broke 120 in my stock balt but it gets there quick due to the fact that he also reprog the cranks and cams efectivley giving me 10hp more! BONUS! lol as for the gov....u need a friend in the buss. but it is possible to change tire size....option right on tech 2 system just upgrade to the 2.2l sport pack when u get tires....hope this helped.....mod controller not in yet but coming soon

Is your governor gone or did he just change your ecu to reflect you having the sport package? If the latter, then you're still governed, albeit at a higher speed.

Ninja - milage should be stored in the BCM so no worries there.

there's no option on a techII to alter the tune of your engine, that's not what it's for, the car performs the same as it did, sorry dude.

yes there should be an option to switch to the "sport package" and then just make sure you input the right OD for what you have currently on the car and you should be bumped to between 120 and 125, I forget where exactly it cuts off.

you can also swap in a different ecu as stated above, and it should not cause a problem as far as drivability. HOWEVER, when someone goes to pull codes or monitor, it should state on the TechII that the VIN's do not match up, and either request to reflash to the correct VIN or to input the correct one, I forget which one. We did this on an 04 and 05 redline a while back.

I have an extra ecu for this reason, just haven't gotten around to altering/flashing it. that and I want to keep it in case HPtuners finally gets off their ass and get the 2.2 suite out.

ok, ive said this before, i toped my car out at 125mph it was not governd, it was due to the rev limiter, i know the diference between the 2 when the gov cuts off fuel flow and you slow down by 10mph then it kicks back in. at 125mph i watched the tach bounce at 6500 rpm rapidly w/ out droping below 123ish mph. if its supose to be a govner, GM fubard on that part.

so you tached out (as much as you can with the stock restraints) the auto tranny and all it hit was 120? that seems odd, would have thought it be a bit taller than that.

im surpried about this too with my 5 speed im at about 4 grand when i hit my fuel cut off at 124 since it cant down shift it just bounces the tach at a lower rpm than redline
