SAI on 2007 2.2 LT wtf????

allright so it seems to me if your air box has a second line like this pic:

that you have a secondary air intake...........my 2007 LT had this set up above........

i thought this only came on the 2006 cobalts....

so does that mean i cannot get a new header???

Welcome to the wonderful world of emissions control...

I don't think anybody makes a header for SAI equipped 2.2Ls yet.

SAI is on all 2.2Ls sold in certain states.

Actually your 2.2L with SAI has a "header" -- steel tubes welded together, not a cast iron manifold. The SAI checkvalve sits on top of your exhaust manifold and controls when fresh air is injected into the manifold to reduce tailpipe emissions. No header manufacturer has made a header because they would have to include a mount for the checkvalve and include ports for the air to be injected as the stock manifold does. I don't think you'd be willing to pay what they would have to charge for this...

No, you cannot put on the GMPP ext-honed manifold -- no place to mount the checkvalve. You can install the cat-back exhuast systems.

SAI is not a really a performance-killer, just a PITA for modding the exhaust.

You can still get an exhaust without any problems at all. And you can go to a dealership and have them flash the ecu so that you can remove sai from your car, and then put your choice of header/downpipe on. So if you really want a header, just find a dealership, and have them flash the ecu

This is true, but you have to find a dealer willing to turn off the SAI in the first place. They can do it without reflashing the ECM -- can be done with the same equipment they use to enable 16" wheels on a Cobalt that came with 15" wheels.

i know it dosnt kill performance........however it does kill the gains i would get from adding a new header and downpipe since that is not possible wit this SAI system

If you can get it done, then you could remove the entire system - electric pump, checkvalve, exhaust manifold, hoses and tubes.

and if anyone has........what steps did you do through to get rid of it.......

or is there already a thread that explains that? if so please post up the link
