Service Air Bag light

As the title says, my service air bag light came on the other day (07 LT). My car just cracked 59,000 miles. Two questions for you all:

1. Any theories on what the problem is?

2. I talked to my mechanic, who said the air bag system may still be covered under warranty. Anybody know for sure if this is true?

Any help is appreciated.

also the actuall air bag sensors or air bag modual might have came loose

Had this problem a while ago, and i took it to the dealership. Basically they had to replace one of the sensors that was in the seat belt track (behind the pillar panel).

could be any number of things. You need to get it checked out and find out what code its got before i can even guess.

On my son's it was the passenger seat belt. They replaced it under warranty. Of course they screwed up the paint on the passenger side with taking the seat in and out several times and what not... But the Service Airbag Light hasn't come back on...

Just went to the stealership, and, as suspected, it's not a warranty repair.

(Maven, lookin' your way on this one) Where can I get it scanned to figure out what's wrong with it?

Go here and pop your zip code in. I would assume they scan for free in every state but I duno. They all scan my car in NY for free

If that does not work google Autozone then click on the "find a local location" button.

My problem was the SIR Coil. When my friends and I did my clutch, we were in a hurry due to the shop closing and the rain, so we ended up connecting the steering shaft upside down, this cause the SIR Coil/Clock spring to uncoil

Jmz you almost need a dealer, the only thing that I know for sure reads Cobalt SIR codes is the Tech2/Candi. A Snapon Modis or Verus SHOULD, but ive never tried. Depending on what kind of shops you have in your area and how well equipped they are you may be stuck getting a dealer to look at it. Just call around to the local reputable shops and ask if they can read airbag system codes.

Good enough. There's a local mechanic that can take care of it...he's always been good to me.

Thanks to everyone for the help.
