on my base coupe w/ the short throw shifter it seems to cut it nearly in half. And the gears are also all a lot closer.

I've been considering doing the same thing...have you looked into any quotes on the price of purchase and installation yet? I'm not sure if I'd also want to add the SS shift knob or keep the one I've got...haven't had a chance to use the SS' myself (and is it weighted as some of the other kits are?)

No I haven't really looked into I just know I want to do it. I wont be getting my car until the 2nd week in September. Also I'll be back at school, without any tools or workplace, so i'd have to get an installation price up there.

I might go by my dealership on my week off and look into it...no harm in looking anyways even though I don't plan on doing much to my car until next year. If I beat you to it I'll post my finding though they'll be in CDN $$.

dont forget, short shifters put more strain on your drivetrain, so forget about that warranty....

pros:
faster shift times (might knock off 1/2 a tenth on a 1/4 mile)
looks cool

cons:
voids drivetrain warranty
if shifts are too fast/harsh syncros suffer may result in a needed rebuild.

how is that any different from a regular shifter?

the only thing thats changing on the shifter is the rod length so how does that bring on extra strain?

Hell, I'm waiting to hear whether it voids warranty or not. That's the first I've heard of it voiding it.

I wouldn't think it would, but heck, you never know...especially with dealerships around here.

However, at our Dodge Dealership, they thought my SRT was completely stock...and it's highly modded. I don't think the guy would have even KNOWN what a short-throw looked like

Maybe I can help out here a little. For installation of a Cobalt shifter you shouldn't be charged more than an hour of labor. Honestly the installation is quite straight forward if you did want to give it a shot, you can find our installation manual here: http://www.twmperformance.com/manual...n%20Manual.pdf

Regarding warranty, a short shifter should not affect your manufacturer's warranty. Here is an exerpt from the Magnusson Moss act which should help out...

The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fradulent activity by new car dealers. Under this Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's orginial warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warrany or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under, "what is not covered". Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or offer an explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202.326.3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.

We've been hearing great things from our customers who have purchased our Cobalt shifters, here is the direct link for those of you who would like to learn more: http://www.twmperformance.com/shorts...rtshifters.htm

Thanks!

Karel
