yep...i hit 106 on teh freeway a month or so back, n then it felt like my foot was off the throttle....and damn does drag on the car slow you down at 106

SO pretty much I should be ok as long as I don't kick in the over drive from a stop? I have and auto trans by the way cause I don't know how to drive stick ( one of the things I hope to learn)

honestly...think of it this way....every car has a set lifespan...leys say HP (goin videogame style), idling the engine takes veeeery little HP, so does slowly accelerating and cruising...starting the engine takes some moderate HP, and rapid acceleration takes a lot of HP....the less you do of those things, the longer the engine will last

i kinda look at it as an engine is going to produce 10000000000HP(maybe more or less...im guessing how many 0s there should be) before its dead....flooring it uses a lot more HP than cruising....

It's not about what it "takes" but "creates". Rapid acceleration is in relation to the power you're creating.

The length of your engine lasting is really down to the structure of the engine. The ECOTEC race engines that GM uses CAN last a whole season where as other teams have to rebuild the engine multiple times a season. It's about structure, designing & the mechanics of the vehicle and engine. Everything works hand and hand.

This is the most complex explaination I'm ever going to give at near 4 am central time lol

ah, but adam, my point still stands, and is explained ina simpler way

pretty much what makes an engine last is having a very small margin of error in blueprinting and making sure all the parts can handle the cars max power and then some. all the consumer can do is dont floor it all the time, like i said above, and make sure you're changing your oil on time

So basically what everyone is saying is that as long as I don't floor it every time I start I'll be good?
Also I'm starting to look into mods what can I do that won't void my warranty? I've heard CAI, and wheels are good and won't void it, does anyone have any suggestions or clarifications? I was thinking about the Injen CAI and a set of the 18's that come on the SS with some new tires cause these stockers are not up to the task. And as a side note if anyone could explain the tire rating system (ie Z rated Ect) to me?

he is, 5 lugs on ls and lt, 4 on ss.... and i can only go to 105 with aftermarket 18s. but if im going down hill and really trying, i can get to 115 till the engine shuts off till i hit that ever so loving touch back to 90 when it becomes active again! I drive my car up to 4000 rpm at times, no farther. our engines can take a beating like sparta on march 9th. god i cant wait for that movie. and just when you think i couldnt hijack this beutifull thread anymore! I want a zo6 and id do damn near anything to have it!

3. Just for the guys in Pittsburgh PA, are there any groups or anything that meet around here? I mean a club or just a gatheing of tuners doesn't even haveto be all cobalt or anything just looking to learn all I can about my car and how to work on it, as well as meet new people interested in the same things as me! any help would be appreciated

Just be carefull, there are abuse clauses in the warranty. When they do diagnostics they can tell what you were doing when your car throws a code.

I've got four lugs on my Ls ....... maybe it is the SS that has 5? or maybe they changed it up for 07 models?

I'd go with the GMPP intake. Click on the links in my sig for a how-to of installing one. You don't have to cut a hole in your hood and install a scoop like I did (in fact, I dpn't think anyone else has). You can even have your dealer install the GMPP intake, If you do it has the same warranty as the car.

Same goes for the GMPP extrude-honed exhaust manifold and GMPP cat back exhaust system. And the drilled and slotted brakes.
