im not sure on this, same set up, i myself have wondered this, i think someone else put the SS stock shfter into a base model, which means the aftermarket should in theory work too, i was just thinking this too, but i dont feel like risking it, if you want a STS get one for the 03+ cavalier, they all fit fine

well if you look into it. there is cosmo racing short shifter that is cheap and is a great buy. cuz i installed it in my car and it works great. instead of buying a ss sts. go to cosmoracing.com. adn twm makes a short shifter for our car too.

The short shifter for the Cobalt SS/SC will not work in your car, we make a short shifter specifically for the standard Cobalt:

All boosted SS's have reverse lockout, none of the N/A Cobalts have reverse lockout.

It will fit if you do some trimming on a plastic piece at the bottom, but it will be the same height as your stock one. The OEM SS shifter sits higher than the stock 2.2 one, me and a friend put mine on his base and found this out.

"short" refers to the length of the throw, not the length of the shifter. Some of the shortest shifters I've seen people put on their race cars come up to the middle of the steering wheel height-wise.
