call 034motorsport.com

they have the Ic ECU which I was going to buy but I currently don't have $1300.

Once I get the $$ I'll sell the ms and get the 034.

originaly yes but ti sounds like that wouldn't work. what if i wanted to make up a harness that went in line with the factroy ecm harness but took all the ignition and fuel controls to say a aem box and left all other functions run back to the stock ecm that wouldn't work?
I think it would work.

We do, it's right over the starter, it's held in by 1 10mm bolt.

It's a magnetic sensor. But here's the problem

on the 0x-04 2.2l Eco's the Reluctor Ring isn't a standard ring and the stock ecu can tell where the crank is.. (its a 7 tooth ring)

on the 05+ they have 52-55? something 50 tooth ring which is standard and you can use the stock crank position sensor to tell the igniton module what position the crank is at, a signal is sent from the module to the standalone, then the standalone will send a signal to the ignition module to apply so much degree of spark.

What i'm doing since I can't use the stock crank cause i have a 04 is to mount a 36-1 (36 tooth missing a tooth) and the VR sensor is that "magnetic sensor" that tells the ignition module then it sends it to the standalone....etc

so here it goes for what i'll be doing

Wheel on Crank pulley ----> VR Sensor Pickup ----> Igniton Module ----> Standalone ----> Ignition Module ----> Coil ----> Spark

you can call fred at SMG and ask him all about this, they're about 10 mins away from me and he used the MSD Chevy Trigger wheel, the distributor, and the msd spark computer.

if you're uncertain give him a call and said "elvis with the turbo saturn" refeered you

Actually the 2.2 Ecotec right up and including 2006 uses the 7X reluctor. But the 2007 has a 58X (aka 60-2) which IS 100% compatible with the Megasquirt and MSnSE (Well, technically so is the 7X if you convert to an older OBD1 "bypass" type DIS module and coils)

I havnt heard of anyone swapping in a 2007 2.2 crank (58X) into an older Ecotec yet, but that's what I'd like to try. (Assuming the orientation for the CKP is identical)

We just left the stock ignition module connected to the OEM ECM and wired in 4- 12ohm resistors across the injector circuits so it would not set DTCs and went on it's merry way thinking IT was in charge...

PS> Elvis? Is that you??

so let me get this straight, since I have an N/A car currently a piggyback fuel system would work well as a tunning solution for me?

Does anyone know of an inexpensive piggyback that would be compatible with our cars? This interests me almost as much as the 2.4L intake manifold thread
