Suggestions on my LS coupe.

I have a 2005 Chevy Cobalt 2.2L LS Coupe. I've had it for awhile now and i've really been itching to begin on adding things on to it. Right now my first thing I'm wanting done is the injen CAI. I'm looking to make my car into a sleeper right now. I just want to put all my money into the engine and worry about the exterior later.

btw, I have a auto trans. Should I go with a turbo or an a/m sc?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You will be a bit let down by the GM Supercharger kit. Its expensive, and for the money, you can turbo charge and get a lot more horsepower. However, the GM kit will allow you to retain your warrenty.

As for the auto trans, no problems there. Forced induction will work fine on this car with either the manual or the auto.

If you are thinking forced induction, don't waste time or money on an CAI. You won't be able to use it after the induction product is installed.

From the money I've heard you'll spend on the SC, you're better off buidling a custom turbo setup.

well definately go turbo and if you wait for the garrett turbo kit that is supposed to come out early 06 they will retain the stock airbox with their kit ive talked to them personally to make sure since i wanted to buy an injen cai and they said it should be able to work with the kit with little or no modification

Correct me if i'm wrong, but if you put a CAI or anysort of aftermarket part on your engine doesn't that void the warrenty? I want to go ahead and get the CAI within the next month and just start saving for the turbo kit.

do not get a CAI if you are going turbo

it will be replaced when you buy the turbo kit...spend your money on other supporting turbo mods if you are looking to buy something.

they can only void the warranty on the part(s) you replaced (and possible supporting parts). The only way a I can see a CAI void the warranty on the entire motor is if you hydrolock from driving through a pond in the road. Ofcourse if you still have the CAI on when you tow it to the dealer then you deserve to pay for it.

Also while shopping for turbo parts you should also be looking for someone to rebuild your tranny (gonna have to build it stronger or you can't run much boost)

A few of these things will be repeats, but...

Your warranty will be fine. A replacement intake does not affect it. You void the powertrain warranty if you "crack the seal" as I call it. Meaning, if you take off a part that would allow access to the oil inside the engine, then you void it. For instance, cam shafts will void your warranty.

As for your trans, if you are running stage one boost levels, your automatic will be fine without upgrades. The stock Auto is actually rated to handle more torque at the gearbox then the manual is. You should be good up to around 250 HP without modification.

And finally, don't get a new intake if you are going to get a turbo. Yes, there are kits out there, like Maximum Boost's turbo kit, that are set up to allow the use of an naturally aspirated intake. However, most dont. When you buy the turbo kit, it usually comes with an intake all its own. What will you do with two?

Hope that helps.
