Theory... Hondas do it.
Hondas blocks and heads are interchangable hence why you can take a D15 block and throw a D16a head on it, or take a b18 and throw a V-tec head on it. In theory cant you take a 2.2 and throw a 2.4 VVT head on it? Would you need a 2.4 PCM? Would it even run?
if you swapped the harness, ecm, and changed the head i think it would work but you may need to change the insturment cluster too, and you might still need to program the ecm to the bcm i don't know how these cars are set up. i'm pretty sure that the block are from the same cast so all the sensor in it should be the same.
it's easier to change the block than everything else.
for example, i helped install a 7a-fe bock into an MR2 that had a 4a-ge originally.
that gave us a 1.8 litre rather than a 1.6.
sooo, if you had a 2.4 and wanted a 2.2 block, i guess you could... but why?
conversely, you MAY be able to put the 2.4 block under the 2.2 head and gain some power, but the tuning isn't there.

Sure, I dont know **** bout Hondas. I know it was some combo like that. I remember K20 and K24 were mentioned to be in it and one came from a RSX...
