+ and - of a tune???

Have an 08 Lt 2.2 thats near stock.

Engine/exhaust mods:

SRI
2nd cat delete
Aftermarket srtaight flow muffler

Right now im averaging 28.5 mpg and 90% of my driving is hway
I want something to give me a bit more power but dont want to kill my mpg.
Pretty sure Im done with engine and exhaust mods due to there not being much to offer a 2.2 with SC or TC conversions.

Any ideas or advice and keep in mind this is my DD so 40 mile commute a day to work so mpg is important.

****Forget to mention its an auto***** :-(

a tune is more or less all positive, depending on who does it.

Im going to have to make a pretty good drive beacuse there is no way in Hell Im letting any local shops touch my car. Rednecks that think oil leaks and no muffler adds 100hp to there pos trucks......No thanks...

Vince at Trifecta tuning.

AzraelRaezier 02-18-2012 10:08 PM

hit up vince with trifecta. he could probably get you a nice conservative tune that would increase your mpgs also along with your power. if you want more without doing sc/tc you could look into adding cams and porting out your head along with upgrading to the 2.4 IM and 2.4 TB

I have already had a hard time just getting ahold of Vince and I wont be able to come up with a total of $500 with the $200 deposit. Im hoping to find someone around me (2hrs or so away) and just drive to them to save shipping and deposit costs plus I just prefer to be right there instead of trying to tune through emails and stuff.

How hard is it to put in the 2.4 IM and I am assuming that its better just due to being bigger?

BankerBalt 02-18-2012 10:16 PM

8 bolts and you're done. it gives you more mid range power

I have had all trucks in the past and have worked on many cars but as far as DIY the Cobalt is one of the easiest cars I have ever done anything to.:twothumbs

AzraelRaezier 02-18-2012 10:44 PM

whoever told you 500$ + a 200$ deposit is a tard. its 250 for the tune, prices are posted right on their website.

BankerBalt 02-18-2012 10:46 PM

i think he meant 500 all together, which includes the 200 deposit

reading > me

fail... haha i see that now. anyways. badnewsracing does tuning through trifecta and they you can tune for 380$ and keep the tuning cable for free minor retunes for the life of the car. thats who i plan on using.

but if you dont want to keep the cable i think its a 150$ deposit plus the 230$ tuning fee

David6312008 02-18-2012 10:49 PM

Alright so I got a dumb question here guys.......Here we go
Can I go to the scrap yard and get a 2.4 ecotech Intake manifold off a cavalier and put it on my Cobalt?

AzraelRaezier 02-18-2012 10:51 PM

it would have to be an ecotec head. but i dont think there were any 2.4 cavis. 2.2 only if i recall. i would honestly just get one from ZZP or somewhere so you know ur getting a good quality product.

BankerBalt 02-18-2012 10:51 PM

hp tuners ftw... if you can, find someone who does hpt near you

AzraelRaezier 02-18-2012 10:52 PM

or even this - 2.2L High Flow Intake Manifold (08+ LE5) #

BankerBalt 02-18-2012 10:52 PM

go on ebay for the 2.4 manifold, or search here in the classifieds, a lot cheaper. cavaliers did have a 2.4, but not an ecotec one, correct.

David6312008 02-18-2012 10:53 PM

The links for the 2.2 to 2.4 kit have all been dead ends for me I think the page is old or down.

AzraelRaezier 02-18-2012 10:54 PM

the one i just posted is for a 2.4 manifold they just call it a 2.2 high flow. LE5 = 2.4 l61=2.2

David6312008 02-18-2012 10:55 PM

Z24 Cavis had the 2.4 so yep no go

AzraelRaezier 02-18-2012 10:59 PM

just post a thread saying u want a 2.4 manifold. but if you run the 2.4 TB you HAVE TO tune for it. but im sure if ur trying to stay away from the boosted build itd be a nice lil bump. are you by chance running a cold air intake?
