Upgrades that won't void warranty

I just bought a cobalt a few weeks ago and am wondering what I can do to it without voiding the warranty. Thoughts?

Since no cobalts come with factory warranty anymore I'm guessing he has a 3rd party.

In that case everything you put on will pretty much void a 3rd party warranty.

Have fun with your car and mod away.

Unless you have no money, then save please.

Yeah it's a 3rd party. Picked up an 05 with under 100k. Warranty covers practically everything. That's what I figured but was hoping I could do at least little things. Guess I'll just slowly buy parts and put them on when I'm no longer worried about the warranty. Thanks

Put on aftermarket parts and swap them back to stock if something breaks.

Since it's "under warranty" you might want to make sure everything works for a little while before modifying. Intercooler Pumps are one of the biggest failure points on the LSJ. Make sure it's flowing (on a 2005 make sure it's flowing the right direction too).

This is the 2.2 section so no intercooler.

Performance wise you really can't do anything without risking your warranty. You can tint windows, upgrade CD player, add a sub. Paint trim pieces. You could also trifecta tune and just have it so you can select on and off.. Sneaky sneaky.

Yeah no ic it's n/a..for now. Had a jeep burning coolant and after a year and a half of working on it due to the previous owner not taking care of it I was done with it and just needed something that didn't need work done. Keeping the warranty for at least a year or two especially since I'm gonna need tranny work down the line because 3rd likes to grind at random times. Was hoping to at least be able to get away with a cai but I guess I'll just put money back so when I'm ready I can start building. I'll look into the trifecta tune. Did come with an exhaust and I threw in a performance air filter in so that would probably help them work better. Although not what I wanted to hear thanks for the input guys

You're lucky your transmission costs less than 500 from most junkyards, and you can replace it if you have decent mechanical abilities

Ever since I made that post it's only done it once. The guy said it sat there I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but since it's under 100k miles I might just go ahead and flush it and replace the tranny fluid. Also already threw an aem sticker on it that came with my air filter. After I get new tires on it I might throw on a cai and just put the stock box back in if I run into any issues requiring use of the warranty since I have a $100 deductible. Just not sure if I want to go with injen or ottp. As for the trifecta tune, is there a tuner just as good without having to wait for info to go back and forth to get it fully tuned?

Decals, inlays, and overlays are your only option if that's the type of warranty you have.

So I got a pretty decent tax return so after I get the warranty to fix my lower HVAC leak and the knocking I have in the front and rear then it's on to the fun stuff. I'm going to start with the intake, only problem is I'm stuck between Injen and K&N so I'd like some advice/feedback since I can't seem to find any definitive answers on which will provide the best improvement. From what I have found, HP seems to be the same at 6.6 but I'm finding two different numbers for torque, one site says K&N has more at 7.? and Injen at 6.9 then vivid had Injen at 17.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Iirc the K&N and the Injen are pretty similar. The K&N utilized an "isolation wall" so it was a short ram intake with a little box you put around it so it doesn't suck in hot air. The Injen tube actually puts the filter down below the headlight where the stock cold air intake point is. Water is more of an issue with the Injen than the K&N but unless you drive through flood water it's not a big deal. I put a water-shedding pre-filter on mine just for peace of mind and never had any problems. Drove it in all kinds of adverse weather.

I would think the intake temperatures of the Injen would tend to be a bit lower than the K&N just because of the filter location. They both have their advantages but from a performance standpoint they will be too close to compare.

All this information is from memory from 9 years ago when I ended up going with the Injen intake, so some things may have changed since then. I can tell you the Injen intake did add a nice intake sound.

Thanks for the info. I went with the Injen. Currently set up as a short ram due to running out of time to take the resonator out. Still love it. I'll post pics of everything when I get the chance. Doing the downpipe and cat next. Figured since the flex pipe's leaking I might as well replace it all now and upgrade it while I'm at it.

If you still have stock manifold or shorty header I have a high-flow catted DP from ZZP that I used for a little over a year if you have any interest. I have since went to ZZP long tubes so I no longer have use for it.

Any performance upgrades would've, including lowering it. But the dealer flat out said they don't care what I do I only have to worry if someone from the warranty company comes out to inspect it and made it sound like it only happens in bigger issues. His example was the engine blowing so I'm not worrying about.

Yes for manual though. Was just looking at the product on ZZP's website and forgot there was a difference.
