Well, hate to do this but.....
I traded my 06 LS 2.2 for a 05 Cavalier 5spd. I have already ordered HP Tuners and a Turbo Manifold. I wish I could have hung in there, but sorry guys. I have an Injen CAI im selling hit me up. renaldo6@juno.com. BTW Even though the J seems like a worse off car. Its more comfortable. Better ride, and a half a second faster than the Balt. Plus I can tune and boost, and not worry aobut that damn forsaken ECU. Talk to ya'll later.
wow this cavy is wicked. base trim with only a/c, breaks the tires loose going into 3rd gear. not much of a looker but it moves very well for a stock J-body.
if either of my J-bodys ran this well id have never gotten rid of em
i cant wait for his HPTuners to arrive. we need to tune the SS/SC
(if i ever get the damn thing fixed)
i also have an 06 ls cobalt. the car makes me feel like "if i had to mod this thing i'd blow my brains out." its not nearly as solid or quick as my J's. but its a decent work car. relatively problem free *knocks on desk*

I owned a 2000 Z24 Cavy... and holy crap is my cobalt nicer! First off, try and shut your driver's side door on the cavy, then go to a cobalt and do the same... notice a difference?
The cobalt was MUCH, MUCH sturdier than the flimsy cavy i had. Road noise is terrible, because like stated, your driving in a tin can.
I will agree with you on being a quicker car... I loved the ability to roast the crap out of the tires in my cavy, but how practical is that anymore?
To each there own, I believe that GM Made a good decision in the design and remodeling of the cobalt.

yeah..after putting 200,000 kms on my 98 cavalier....was real glad to trade for a cobalt, the wiring on my cavalier had issues the entire time, i also like the fact that my balt was built/assembled in the US instead of mexico...no offense to the mexicans but yeah...
dont get me wrong, the cobalt is way nicer and has alot more room. i wouldnt trade my ss/sc for any j-body, my 98 cavalier was slow as hell, and i had nothing but problems with my 03 sunfire. im simply saying that the J outruns and outhandles the stock 2.2 cobalts that i have driven.
That is very easily fixed though. I would rather spend a couple hundred on performance and suspension parts to make the car handle a little better than I would dumping money into a J-body just to compare the ride quality I feel I get with my cobalt.
In my opinion in order to even say that a cavalier/sunfire has a equal quality interior, you would have to...
A. Buy a FEW dynamat kits.. because the J is a tin can. Road noise is terrible
B. Seats, rip them apart and add a few more cusions to them. Comfort is an issue
C. I think the dash cluster is much nicer as well, so yeah.
I drove both a 2.2L OHV Cavy then traded that in for a 2000 2.4L Cavy that i modded rather heavily and I must say that for a car that I bought stock, I wouldn't look back. The cobalt is far better in my opinion, even in my 2.2L Cobalt LT coupe.

In all honesty, I support your decision. Of course, going from a heavier setup (cobalt) to a lighter one (cavy), your going to notice a difference in performance. It all depends on what you want to do. The cobalt is a vast improvement over the cavy in terms of refinement, however it is a bit heavier. I love my ION because it is more refined (in both ride, comfort and performance over my previous saturn, however my other saturn weighed 500 lbs less. I had the SOHC though so it didn't have too much to back it up. I love my ION because it is an all-around better package than my other saturn. So to each their own, but you'll be more happy with the J if you wanted simply performance. They have more aftermarket at this point in time, and it's a lighter and simpler platform to mod. Good luck.
When I was first looking at Cobalts it was the 2.2's. After a test drove of a few i decided i couldn't justify spending that much more for a 2.2 cobalt vs a 2.2 ecotec cavalier. Started looking for 2.2 cavy's to throw hahns kit on there and cost a hell of a lot less then the balt. But then i found the 2.4 and never looked back. Of course i was looking for something to mod from the start but i definatly see where this guy is coming from.
