what to do

so i got in an accident with my car a little over a week ago. i ended up with some damage on the drivers side and cracked the radiator. i limped the car home overheating in the process, i even had to stop to let it cool down before getting it back. the body shop is fixing the damage but doing nothing with the engine so i don't know if it is ok.

i was planning a turbo build but i don't know if i trust the motor anymore. i'm not sure if i should either save up my money and get a 240sx or other car to build, or if i should go more for appearance (i'm really into stanced cars and that style.). or should i just continue with my turbo build. the car is a 2006 cobalt lt auto.

what do you guys think?

you should turbo your car and "stance" it. And also do appearance mods. Do it all

Did you stop the car to keep it from overheating and let it cool down? Or did the ecu shut you down?

What temp was your DIC displaying? if it was around 240* or lower you are fine, that is what mine averages at the track.

Also the rear end is gonna be funny poked and tucked. Solid axle cars act funny when modded that way, also for as low as you may be wanting to go(i.e. not pussing out with a body kit and dubs) you may definitely want to just camber the front and not worry about the rear...

270.... *Insert "oh snap" expletive here* Well when you get her back see if the smokes when you start her up, also before you even let the car get to operating temp check the oil and coolant for mixing(oil looking like chocolate milk, coolant with brown tint/brown floaters).

BTW, I see you already have Tenzos, I used to have a set, the rear was nice but the front was too high and the overall ride was too soft, how do you like yours?

i really like my tenzos. they ride isn't harsh and they handle decent. i wish the drop is was lower but theyre lower than any other spring

insurance is covering the radiator. and i have 90% of the turbo kit. im just afraid the motor wont be able to handle it after overheating.

Although that is a lot of stress on the engine if it seems good I would take it to your garage of choice and ask them their opinion, if Maven is still on here(I havent been on in forever) he could definately provide a great deal of insight.

yeah im probably gonna have it gone over to be sure everything is alright. i would just hate to put all the effort into turboing it and then blow the motor and be screwed.

Not to sound mean but you gotta pay to play bro. either way, if you blow it PM me, I still got an entire spare engine that has been sitting apart for about 3 years, if you ever need parts let me know.

Do a compression and leak down test, if those pass you should be ok. Personally, if you want a stick shift car just get something else....

My two cents on it - so long as there's no signs of oil/coolant mix or smoking, and leakdown and all is fine, why not build on it - and see if it takes it?

Its a turbo build you're going for, after all. Its not like you're gluing anything significant to the engine. If you build it and it grenades, stab in another used Eco, keeping the plumbing you stuck in it and keep running! Stock non-boosted Eco's are a dime a dozen, and you can take the time to give the new block the loving touch before it goes in, rather than pulling your existing one. If you take the time to pull the existing engine, you can do the whole loving touch to it - gaskets, bearings, bits and bolts, but I'd hesitate to just do one or two things to possibly crutch a slightly hurt engine.

Running it until it blows up - its the essence of hot rodding.
