What Gas Stations Have The Best Types of Gas

Ok I keep seeing a shell commercial, that says their gas is better then other gas stations gas. Is this true? I always thought that gas was gas. I know about octane ratigns and that stuff, but is Shell gas really better then the gas I get at Wawa?

Nope they did a study on this, gas is gas, it only costs extra because of the name brand.

Some claim, like Shell that they have extra detergents in it to help "clean" the engine...Here's my rule of thumb when it comes to gas...try and always get it from the newest gas station that you know of...this way you can be pretty sure you are getting some clean gas...unlike some leaking broken tanks that get water and deposits in them.

I like BP and Shell is good too, but honestly all the big names are the same. The random small independent places I don't trust because one of them near me got shut down for passing off 87 octane as 93. With the big names there is more accountability.

well with you supercharged guys, possibly that could help improve performance. roots blowers do cause alot of heat, more then any other supercharger, so it might help out. the intercooler on them probably isnt very effective. but why you ask if us 2.2 guys have run it? lol

unless someone turbo has

ive got to say, ill never use bp ever again. i kept getting watered/bad gas from bp. car would drive like crap and/or misfire with it. i did every other tank with bp to make sure that was it. and this was through several bp stations. i will only go there if nothing else i would use is around.

I run only top tier fuel. Chevron most of the time with lucas octane booster for added support. When I don't use the above gas and additive I feel it bog on me.

there is no point.... you wont get any gain from it... the ECU will just deal with it and run the same...

the 2.2 and 2.4 are meant to run on 89... or 87.... whichever.... so no point in wasting the extra moeny

I use strictly Sunoco, as their Premium is 93 octane (most other places around here are 92) and they carry Ultra 94

EDIT: Just realised you don't have the 2.0 unless you start getting crazy with cams or go FI eventually you will probably not see any benefit from running a higher octane. A higher octane is req'd when compression ratio's or boost levels bring the threat of knock.

Yupp Ultra 94 ftw, I do that with octane booster on track days

I can't remember which station it was, but I know there is one that is near Milan dragstrip in SE michigan that has 100 on pump.

i know i need nothing above 89, but i have a project car that will probably need as much octane as possible . im going to try to stick strictly to sunoco when i finish it so i can keep running 94 in it.

octane is an addative to prevent detonation. if your engine is not detonating, adding octane (octane booster or isoproply? alcohol) is just thinning down the amount of burnable fuel in the measured volume pumped through your injectors. you run lean... on top of the fact that if you use alcohol, you have added an oxygenator and are running lean already. I have no idea if the ecm compensates for this.

I don't have a need to run above Regular grade, but I still do. With the high compression that our engines run (10.0:1) you will see some benefits in power and fuel economy from switching over to higher grades. One thing to remember is that you can run premium, but you have to use a couple of tanks of mid-grade first otherwise you'll damage your engine.

Typically the ECM will compensate to some extent for things like running lean (typically in cold weather) and for knock (going up in octane). But still, you can't beat a real tune for those conditions.

There is also a place in St. Johns which is probably cheaper than near Milan FYI

Just to clear up some confusions... Octane is not an additive. There may be additives called Octane, but gasoline has an inherent property called octane, or its resistance to detonate.

Check out wikipedia for more info than you would ever want.
