The word "Ecotec" is nothing more then a brand name. It has no inference to the way the engine operates the way "Vtec" does on a Honda.

There are no less then 7 different Ecotec model engines. Two of them have variable valve timing, but that really has nothing to do with the name.

Many engines nowadays have "tec" in the name somewhere, idk why...

It usually has two different setting one for lower revs and one for high revs. The lower revs usually has more valve overlap, meaning the exhaust valve is open while the intake valve is for a short time. This helps create a suction of fresh air/gas into the cylinder and helps ensure all the burnt gas and air gone. At higher revs there is little to know overlap to ensure fresh air/gas is not escaping the cylinder before it is combusted, thus waisting gas.

i know What does valve timing does was just wanted to know if we had it. I didnt think we did but some say we do, others say we dont.

LSJ

The LSJ is a de-stroked (to 86 mm) version of the L61 Ecotec with an Eaton M62 Roots-type supercharger and air-to-liquid intercooler. It is rated at 205 hp and 200 ftˇlbf. With the end of the Chevy Cobalt SS and Ion, The LSJ will no longer be available in a production car after 2007.

The LSJ was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2006.

This engine is used in:

* 2004-2007 Saturn ION Red Line
* 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe

^ good catch, but being that the source is wikipedia, which can be modified by the general public, it could have also read "the LSJ will continue on alongside the LNF as an alternative means of forced induction for the well received Chevrolet Cobalt."

Even though its almost certainly true that the LSJ is done, wikipedia cant be counted on for official information like that.

Oh I know its not stupid. Thats my type of humor. The warranty claims on the 2.0 are probably astronomical. I understand their reason for eliminating the SS. And I never knew that about the filters hmm.

The first oil filters used on Chevy engines had no metal cover. Go back to an old design and get an award. The guy who came up with the metal covers probably got an award too.

well.. first off... we can not use wikipedia as a viable source since it can be altered by the public... with that said.. who knows.. maybe this is the end of the cobalt ss.... or perhaps the beginning of the fabled and ill-rumored TURBO cobalt... LOL... THERE WILL NEVER BE A TURBO COBALT IN PRODUCTION...LOL... j/k j/k who knows

doesnt matter we will know the answer soon because June is just around the corner and it wont be long before we start seeing the '08 models... then we will know for sure

anyways... everyone get back to the original topic of this thread...
