Where to get a tune (I searched)
Where to get a tune (I searched)
It seems that to be able to find a place that will do a custom tune will take me 6946546545 years to find. So I figured I would start a thread so that someone looking for a tune could find many different options in one place.
I'm looking for a decent stage 1 tune (the kind where they send you the handheld device) to gain a little horsepower, but mainly to get my custom catback to stop shooting out black smoke that gets all over my bumper. (I have been told the car is simply running to rich and I need a tune)
Anyway, post all tuners you know! links!

I don't know if the l61's have any option other than Trifecta tuning through Clear Image Automotive (tuning from afar). I remember people used to talk about piggybaks and other method but I never looked into because I never learned how to read.
I don't know what you mean by it will take you a long time to find a shop that will tune you. There isn't one other than Trifecta tuning. There are dealers that may be local to you but it's my understanding that it still comes from one man.

trifecta has been on my car since last may and i haven't had any issues with the tune, and i couldnt be happier.
had a local tuner tune me and do some datalogging runs during which i could immediately feel the difference.
i did have almost everything on my car pretune though so that i wouldnt need a retune down the road.
if you don't have a lot of performance parts on your car as of right now i would wait until you get some stuff on it.
im talking like more than just a catback and an intake. i would suggest doing header, downpipe and 2.4 intake mani at least before the tune. and a 2.4 throttle body if you really want.

hey 1badblueberrysc i had a real quick question, i was reading the stuff in the 2.2 tune option thread and i read your comment saying that you can tune a 2008 2.2l?! i didnt know that? is it really true? cause i just ordered a tune from trifecta but hey if i could get someone to tune my car again after the headers for optimum performance well then hey lol.
Just to make it clear, this is the way I understand it works...I might be wrong and if so, correct me, then I will edit this post...
05-06 only have the option of Trifecta
07 have the option of Trifecta or LS2Edit
08+ can use all three

Not only searching this site, but using google can do wonders for you...

They definitely are cheaper...they are also the best (in many peoples opinions) tuner for the 2.2 bar none.
So how does all of this work? I hear that once you install it, you can turn the tune on/off after you turn the car on. Could someone please explain what happens after I put this thing in?
Do I keep the tuner or ship it back?
Does it really switch back to stock tuned when you turn the car off?
How do you turn the tune on/off if it does?
Sorry to ask so many questions, I figure it's better to ask and look stupid then my car blow up and now I'm walking to work. lol

You are mixing up the tune for the L61 with the tune for the LNF...the 2.2's have one tune that's it...the tune he installs is the tune you get...it stays there until you remove it with the tuner.
The LNF (SS/TC) has a tune that's $350 and it can be switched between 2 different tunes.
You tell them what you have done to the car and what you want out of a tune, they'll send the tuner with the tune...you plug it in to the OBD2 port and upload it to the car. That's it. Then you send the tuner back...that's why you pay a $200 deposit...really what he does is put a $200 hold on your credit card in case he doesn't get the tuner back...once he gets it back, that hold goes away.
Your best bet is to talk to Vince himself. You can email him and ask him everything yourself...he'll lay it down for you. vince@trifectaperformance.com
I think you're over complicating it...it's really simple.
I can't wait to install my exhaust system and get a tune...will be really helpful now that I'm going to be doing a 2nd job delivering pizza...more MPG's FTW!

I see I see... I was getting that info from reading on cobaltss . COM. (why blur out the website???)
Yea, I have a tendency to over-complicate things. Good to know it's that simple... Thanks for the help fellas...

Rivals, just like getting sponsored by Corbeau makes you sign a document that you will not rep the stickers of rival companies on your car.
Like I said, maybe I don't understand something...explain the difference between what he does and a street/dyno tune...
